The Chaminade University of Honolulu is a private university in Honolulu in the US state of Hawaii . The sponsor is the Society of Mary of the Roman Catholic Church .
History and mission statement
The college was founded in 1955 to provide religious education to the Hawaiian Catholic population. It is named after the French priest Guillaume-Joseph Chaminade , the founder of the Society of Mary. The college was initially called Saint Louis Junior College , from 1957 Chaminade College and from 1977 the current name Chaminade University of Honolulu after the Graduate School was introduced.
The university now also accepts non-Christian students, but continues to practice its five-point program, which is derived from the principles of the Society of Mary:
