Sylver is a Belgian vocal trance formation consisting of the singer Silvy de Bie , the keyboardist and songwriter Wout van Dessel and the guitarist John Miles junior . Regi Penxten is the producer and co-author of the songs .
Since 2001 Sylver landed regularly in the German charts and achieved gold status with the song Turn the Tide . Sylver are among the pioneers of vocal trance worldwide .
course
Singer Silvy de Bie began her musical career at the age of nine on the Belgian television show De Kinderacademie . However, Belgian legislation banning children under 16 from any work brought their careers to an abrupt end. She later performed with the band Lace . After finishing school, Silvy worked in a small shop.
Wout is a well-known DJ in Belgium. Both met at the disco, where he worked as a residential DJ. They have been working together ever since. Sylvers are also very present on stage, they have already performed many live performances not only in their home country Belgium, but also in North America, South Africa, Asia, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. Before Sylver, the duo called themselves Liquid feat. Silvy . Since the band name Liquid was already taken, they renamed themselves.
On the singles you will find the usual remixes in the dance industry , which are created by well-known DJs in accordance with the zeitgeist and bear their typical musical signature. The bonus CD of the special edition of the debut album includes three acoustic versions of Turn the Tide , Forever in Love and Forgiven , which make it clear to fans that Sylver can do much more than so-called chart dance music. In other respects, too, Sylvers not only use the synthetic instruments such as keyboards and drum computers, but also guitar, piano and string instruments.
On February 20, 2013, Silvy de Bie announced her departure from Sylver. The band finally broke up at the end of 2013. In the spring of 2016, the band officially announced the re-establishment, and new material is also being worked on. There were renewed live performances and it was announced that the band would accompany the Swedish musician Basshunter on his live tour in his home country in the winter of that year .
Musical career
Musical debut with "Chances"
In 2001 Sylver landed in Germany with her debut single Turn the Tide and the debut album Chances Successes. The single entered the charts at number eight, was in second place after eight weeks (only outbid by Atomic Kittens Whole Again ) and stayed in the top 10 for a total of 12 weeks. Turn the Tide sold around 500,000 times in Germany and achieved gold status, also in Belgium. Turn the Tide became a hit in many countries in Europe and beyond. The album, which was released a few months later, debuted at number 16 and stayed in the German Top 100 for a total of 49 weeks, selling over 200,000 copies in Germany.
Sylver's second single Skin was able to build on the success and was initially only released in Belgium. The third single Forever in Love followed shortly thereafter. The video for the single was shot in France and edited in South Africa. Like the first three singles, In Your Eyes and Forgiven also achieved good chart positions in many countries. On the international version of the single In Your Eyes there is also the song Skin , which was previously only released in Belgium.
A special version of the Chances album was released in Germany in 2002 . In addition to all videos (up to Forgiven ), this also contains a bonus CD with remixes.
"Little Things"
The second album Little Things in 2003 was no less successful. Although only 10 tracks are listed on the cover of the album, there is a French version of the hit Turn the Tide at the end of the CD (song 20) . The song was called Je ne sais pas . The single Livin 'My Life was released even before the album . The video was shot at the beginning of 2003 in an old warehouse in Berlin at temperatures below freezing point. The making-of of the video clip can be found on the special edition of the album, which contains various remixes as well as a DVD with video clips and biography. Livin 'My Life debuted in Belgium as well as in Germany in the top 10.
Why Worry was chosen as the second single and the ballad Shallow Water as the third . Both singles were able to hold their own in Belgium, but achieved only mediocre success in Germany. The fourth single from the album, Wild Horses , was only released in Belgium.
"Nighttime Calls"
On November 2nd, 2004 the third album, Nighttime Calls , was released. Originally the album was supposed to be released in the early summer of 2004, but not all songs were finished by then. The first single from this album, Love is an Angel , was released in Belgium on September 20, 2004 and immediately entered the top 5, in Germany it reached the top 20.
This album could no longer build on the previous successes. No high chart positions were reached in either Belgium or Germany. Nighttime Calls still sold over 25,000 units in Germany, which is a respectable achievement for a dance act. The second single, Make It , a very unusual song with 2-step elements, could not achieve the desired success either. Take Me Back was chosen as the third single from the album , but was only released in Belgium, although this song is probably one of Sylver's strongest tracks and has been praised by many critics.
"Crossroads"
In late April 2006, the new single Lay All Your Love On Me was released, which is the first cover version of Sylver. The song is originally from ABBA . The single reached the Belgian top 10 again, as well as rank 26 in Germany and position 1 in Poland. On May 19, 2006, the accompanying album "Crossroads" was released. The second single, the title One Night Stand , was only released in Belgium. The third release Why was only released in Belgium. Singer Silvy sang the Crossroads song Keep Your Hands together with Milk-Inc. -Frontwoman Linda Mertens.
"Best Of - The Hit Collection 2001-2007"
In 2007 Sylver surprised their German fans with a best of album. The double CD contains all previously released singles as well as the new song The One . The song was not released as a CD single in Belgium or Germany (only as a download and vinyl in Germany). On the second CD, there are remixes of some songs and seven music videos from the earlier singles. The Best Of album was also released in Poland and Russia, but not in Belgium.
Olympic Games 2008 and fifth album "Sacrifice"
At the beginning of April it was officially announced on Belgian television and on June 14th on the Belgian music website Belgovision that Sylver had been shortlisted for her song One World, One Dream , which also has the Olympic motto, at the 2008 Olympic Games in China to sing. Sylver got the opportunity to do so through an interview with CDP Music Channel China. Among the 10 participants, Sylver were the only ones from all over Europe who got such a chance. However, Sylver did not win the competition.
In June 2008 the single One World One Dream was released , initially only in Belgium. In the first week of the chart, the single rose to number 39. In the fourth week, the single achieved its highest place to date. The video for the single shows pictures and insights from Silvy and Wout during their Sylvertour China in April.
It was also announced that a new album would be released in autumn 2008, but that the release was postponed to April 24, 2009. The first official single from the album, Rise Again , was also released several times. Initially, September 19th was planned, later October 10th. After the video shoot for the song in Gent , the single was released on October 27, 2008. The second single from the album, entitled I Hate You Now , premiered on Belgian radio at the end of January 2009. The video was filmed on February 26th at the Hotel Bloom in Brussels and posted on Sylver's official website on March 10th. The single was released on March 13, 2009.
The album Sacrifice was released in Belgium on May 8, 2009 and contains not only a cover of the Mike Oldfield song Foreign Affair , but also music by John Miles , who sings the song personally with Silvy de Bie. The album was released in Belgium in a special edition with the bonus song Thank You . The cover of the album also shows guitarist John Miles Jr. (son of John Miles), who had only recently joined the band.
The song Foreign Affair was also officially released as a single in Belgium on June 12, 2009. With position 3 in the national hit list, Foreign Affair Sylvers is the highest chart success since the single Skin in 2001. With Music , the last single from the album Sacrifice will be released on October 30, 2009 in Belgium. Sylver presented the song together with singer John Miles at the Belgian TMF Awards on October 10, 2009. The video premiered on October 19 on Youtube.
Foreign Affair has been available in Germany since November 20, 2009 , but the song was only released as a download and not as a maxi CD. The music video has so far only been played on the VIVA website. In spite of this, Foreign Affair rose to number 77 in the German single charts on December 4, 2009, only through downloads and without promotion.
Sylver 2010
For the victims of the Haiti earthquake in early 2010, Sylver gave an acoustic concert on January 22nd for the Belgian radio station 1212 . The donations went to Haiti.
Musically, Sylver celebrated their tenth anniversary and gave a big concert on March 27, 2010 in the "Lotto Arena" in Antwerp . This runs under the title "Sylver - 10 years". Before that, Sylvers Single Music was due to appear in Germany with singer John Miles on March 5, 2010, but a publication has so far failed. However, the album Sacrifice was released on March 9th as an import CD. The German version of Sacrifice contains the song Thank You , which could not be found on the standard edition of the album, as well as a second CD with the music videos from the single.
Shortly before the anniversary concert, the song It's My Life was released as a download in Belgium . Although only available on the internet, the song made it into the top 20 in Belgium. The accompanying album Decade - The Very Best of Sylver is a greatest hits album, which was only released in Belgium. It contains all of the band's previous singles, as well as two new songs and a mix of all relevant songs. In the week of March 26, 2010, Sylver jumped to number one on the Belgian album charts, her first number 1 album since her musical debut in 2000.
Almost a quarter of a year after the release of the best-of album, Sylver released a new edition of their hit Turn the Tide from 2000. On June 9, 2010 the video premiered on Youtube. In 2010 , Turn the Tide climbed to position 16 in the Belgian charts, and Sylver reached position 14 in the German DJ charts on September 20, 2010.
Dissolution 2013
In spring 2013 Silvy de Bie left the band, which led to a break from the band.
Reunification 2016
In spring 2016, Sylver announced the reunification on social media , followed by material that was already written. The band remains in the formation from 2014.
