The eighth season was broadcast on Sat.1 from February 23 to April 26, 2020. A ninth season has been ordered for 2021.

concept

On 25 October 2012 Sat.1 announced that the children version of The Voice Kids of Talpa and Schwartzkopff TV Productions can produce. It is based on the format of the original and focuses on children aged 8 to 16 years (since season 9). Previously, the age limit was up to 15 years (seasons 7–8) or up to 14 years (seasons 1–6). Around 70 children who applied in advance and were cast are invited to the first phase, the “blind auditions”. There the children have to sing individually in front of a live audience. The jury members cannot see the candidate at first because they are sitting in a swivel chair with their backs to the stage. You can vote for a candidate by pressing (“buzzing”) for them and turning to see them during their presentation. The candidate goes one round if he receives at least one of the three jury votes. From among those jury members who have turned around for him, the candidate chooses his coach for the further rounds.

This is followed by a week of training in which the coaches prepare their candidates for the second phase known as the “Battle Round”. In the Battle Round three candidates from the same coaching group will sing a song in a trio. Only one of the three candidates will progress according to the decision of the respective coach. The winner of the talent competition will receive a training grant of € 15,000 and an optional recording contract. The parents of the winner decide whether to take this option or not.
