The second season of the talent show The Voice of Germany was broadcast from October 18 to December 14, 2012. It was moderated by Thore Schölermann and backstage by Doris Golpashin . As in the first season , the jury consisted of pop musician Nena , soul singer Xavier Naidoo , singer and guitarist Rea Garvey and the duo Alec Völkel and Sascha Vollmer from the country band The BossHoss . The winner was Nick Howard with his song Unbreakable .
First phase: the blind auditions
The castings for the second season took place from May to July 2012, but were not shown on television. The blind auditions were recorded in August 2012 at the Adlershof studio in Berlin and broadcast in six television programs from October 18 to November 2, 2012. Before the television broadcast began, ProSieben and Sat.1 made the sound recordings of the blind audition appearances available on the Internet without announcing the jury's reaction. In a competition, the audience could guess which candidates the jury had chosen for the second round. The jury selected 66 candidates, including three duos, for the second phase, in which Nena and Rea Garvey moved in with 16 each and Xavier Naidoo and The BossHoss with 17 each. The total of 69 artists included 35 women and 34 men.
The thirteen candidates Neo, Jesper Jürgens, Nick Howard, Jenna Hoff, Omid Mirzaei, Aisata Blackman, July Rumpf, the duo Felix and Lucas Hain, Marcel Beuter, Bianca Böhme, Nele Kohrs, Rayland Horton and Mari Harutyunyan received all four jury votes. Of these, four each opted for Rea Garvey and Xavier Naidoo, three for Nena and two for The BossHoss as coach.

Second phase: the battle round
The Battle Round was recorded in Berlin in mid-September 2012 and broadcast in four television programs from November 8 to 16, 2012. The coaches prepared the participants for the vocal duels together with music producers from their musical environment. As in the first season, Nena was advised by Derek von Krogh, The BossHoss by Jan Löchel and Xavier Naidoo by Michael Herberger. Rea Garvey was assisted by Andy Chatterley.
In Nena's and Rea Garvey's group there were eight one-on-one duels with one winner each. From the seventeen candidates each from Xavier Naidoo and The BossHoss, seven winners from one-on-one duels and another winner from a three-way battle were determined. The 32 winning candidates entered the live show phase.

final
The sixth live show, the finale, took place on December 14, 2012. As in the first season, the winner was determined by a combination of the number of song downloads and the televoting result. The songs of the four finalists presented in the semifinals were available for download in the iTunes Store and other portals for a fee. For each of the four finalists, a download sold by December 13, 2012 counted as many as two televoting votes on the evening of the final.
At the beginning of the final show Robbie Williams interpreted his current hit Candy together with the candidates and later sang his song Different .
In the final show, each participant in the final performed their own song, sang a duet with their coach and another duet with a guest artist. Nick Howard sang with Emeli Sandé, Isabell Schmidt with Birdy , Michael Lane with Leona Lewis and James Borges with Nelly Furtado. Isabell Schmidt had the most downloads before the start of the final show, but after the televoting, Nick Howard had the highest overall rating.
