◀   Season 4 Season 6   ▶

The fifth season of the singing talent show The Voice of Germany was broadcast from October 15, 2015 to December 17, 2015. It was moderated by Thore Schölermann and Lena Gercke . The jury consisted of Stefanie Kloß , the jurors Michi and Smudo , Rea Garvey and Andreas Bourani . The winner was Jamie-Lee Kriewitz from Michi and Smudo's coaching group.

Moderation and jury

As in the three previous seasons, the show was moderated by Thore Schölermann . Instead of the backstage moderation of previous seasons, there was a co-moderation for the first time, this role was taken over by Lena Gercke . As in the previous year, the jury included the singer Stefanie Kloß , the hip-hop musicians Michi and Smudo , the guitarist and singer Rea Garvey and, for the first time, the songwriter Andreas Bourani .

First phase: the blind auditions

The castings for the fifth season took place in February and March 2015 but were not shown on television. The blind auditions were recorded from July 6th to 9th, 2015 in the Adlershof studio in Berlin and broadcast in eight television programs from October 15th to November 6th, 2015. The jury selected 68 candidates - four of them duos and two trios - for the second phase, in which all coaches with 17 participants each moved in.

The candidates Ayke Witt, Matthias Nzola Zanquila, Natascha Herrmann, Jamie-Lee Kriewitz, Denise Beiler, Mishka Mackova, Marc Huschke, Cheryl Vorsterman van Oijen, Tiffany Kemp, Dimi Rompos, Konstantin Kuhn, Anny and Lissy Klein, Rachelle received all four jury votes Jeanty, Tobias Vorwerk, Alicia-Awa Beissert, Isabel Ment and Jonny-Lee Möller. Of these seventeen, six opted for Stefanie Kloß, six for Rea Garvey, three for Michi and Smudo and two for Andreas Bourani as coach.

Second phase: the battle round

The Battle Round was recorded in Berlin on September 1st and 2nd, 2015 and broadcast in four television programs from November 12th to 20th, 2015. In all four groups, the 17 candidates fought seven one-on-one duels and one three-way battle. The respective coach selected one of the battle participants who went straight to the next phase. As in the third and fourth seasons, the defeated battle candidates could also advance to the next phase if one of the other coaches took them over. All four coaches each took on two candidates from other groups, so that all four coaching groups with ten participants went into the next phase.

Third phase: the knockouts

The knockouts were recorded on September 29th and 30th, 2015 in Berlin and broadcast in two television programs on November 26th and 27th, 2015. Each coach divided his ten candidates into two groups of five, in which all participants played a song of their choice one after the other. The coach selected one candidate from each group of five as well as another candidate for the live shows. With that, all four coaches went into the live show phase with three participants each. Of these twelve candidates, nine received all four jury votes in the blind auditions, namely Denise Beiler, Cheryl Vorsterman van Oijen, Dimi Rompos, Isabel Ment, Tobias Vorwerk, Jamie-Lee Kriewitz, Matthias Nzola Zanquila, Ayke Witt and Tiffany Kemp.

Fourth phase: the live broadcasts

There were three live broadcasts on December 3, 10 and 17, 2015 in Berlin. This further reduced the number of live shows compared to previous seasons: in season 1 seven shows were broadcast live, in season 2 six shows and in seasons 3 and 4 four shows each. For the first time, all live broadcasts were broadcast by the TV station ProSieben. Unlike in previous seasons, the coaches did not distribute percentage points, but only selected one of their three candidates for the second live show in the first live show. All further decisions were made by the audience via televoting . The final reached two of Andreas Bourani's protégés, one from Stefanie Kloß, one from Michi and Smudo and none from Rea Garvey. From December 2nd, the twelve own songs that the twelve candidates had sung in the studio could be downloaded as downloads .

First live show

In the first live show on December 3, 2015, eight of the twelve candidates advanced. In each coaching group, the three participants played a song one after the other, after which the coach selected one of his candidates for the next round. Of the remaining eight participants in all groups, the four best placed in the televoting also advanced. So all three candidates of a coach could have made it to the next round. In fact, two candidates from each of the four groups made it to the semi-finals. With the exception of Mary Summer, every semi-finalist in the blind auditions received four jury votes.

Sarah Connor performed her song German love song with the twelve candidates.

Semifinals

In the semifinals on December 10, 2015, four of the eight candidates advanced. Each participant performed a song, and each coach sang a current song of their own with their two candidates. Since the four best placed participants were determined exclusively by televoting, no coach was guaranteed a place in the final. In the end, Rea Garvey's two candidates were eliminated, while Andreas Bourani's two participants reached the final.

Robin Schulz performed a medley ( Sun Goes Down , Headlights , Show Me Love and Sugar ) with the eight semi-finalists.
