The fourth season of the singing talent show The Voice of Germany was broadcast from October 9 to December 12, 2014. Like the two previous seasons, it was moderated by Thore Schölermann and backstage by Doris Golpashin . The jury consisted of the singer Stefanie Kloß , the jury duo Michi and Smudo from the hip-hop band Die Fantastischen Vier , the guitarist and singer Rea Garvey and the songwriter, guitarist and singer Samu Haber . The winner was Charley Ann Schmutzler .
First phase: the blind auditions
The castings for the fourth season took place from late March to mid-April 2014, but were not shown on television. The blind auditions were recorded at the Adlershof studio in Berlin at the end of July 2014 and broadcast in seven television programs from October 9th to 30th, 2014. The jury selected 64 candidates for the second phase, in which all coaches moved in with 16 candidates each.
All four jury votes received the candidates Lina Arndt, Stephanie Kurpisch, Rick Washington, Alex Hartung, Linda Antonia Heue, Cris Rellah, Koko Fitzgeraldo, Björn Amadeus Kahl, Ben Dettinger, Blue MC, Jackie Bredie, Ingo Röll, Kirk Smith, Camilla Daum, René Noçon, Anna Liza Risse and Jonny Akehurst. Of these seventeen, seven opted for Rea Garvey, four for Michi and Smudo, three for Stefanie Kloß and three for Samu Haber as coach.

Second phase: the battle round
The Battle Round was recorded on August 27th and 28th, 2014 in Berlin and broadcast in four television programs from October 31st to November 13th, 2014. The coaches prepared the participants for the vocal duels together with advisors from their musical environment. As in the third season, Samu Haber was supported by music producer and songwriter Brix, while Rea Garvey was advised by musician, songwriter and music producer Andy Chatterley as in the second season. Stefanie Kloß was supported by musician and songwriter Alexander Freund, Michi and Smudo by DJ , composer and music producer Thomilla .
In all four groups, the 16 candidates fought eight one-on-one duels. The respective coach selected one of the two candidates who went straight to the next phase. As in the third season, the losing candidate of a battle could get into the next phase if one of the other coaches took him over. All four coaches each took on a candidate from a different group, so that all four coaching groups with nine participants each went into the next phase.

Third phase: the knockouts
The third phase, this time called the Knockouts, was recorded on September 11 and 12, 2014 in Berlin and broadcast in two television programs on November 14 and 20, 2014. Three participants of the nine candidates in a group, selected by the coach, played a song of their choice one after the other. Then the coach selected one of the three for the live shows. Similar to the Battle Round, each coach took on one of the candidates from another group who were not directly elected; so all four coaches went into the live show phase with four participants each.

Fourth phase: the live shows
The four live shows took place from November 21 to December 12, 2014 in Berlin. In each of the first two live shows, 8 of the remaining 16 participants appeared: Two candidates from the same coach performed a first song one after the other; in the subsequent so-called "clashes", both participants sang two short versions of different songs. Unlike in previous seasons, a trend from the evaluation of social networks was announced. Then the coach divided 100 points between his two participants. The two candidates then received their televoting percentage result as points. From each of the eight duels, the participant with the higher total of points made it to the semi-finals. The four semi-final duels were each played by two candidates from different coaches. One of each coach's protégé got into the final.

Semifinals
In the semifinals on December 5, 2014, two candidates from different coaches competed against each other. The four vocal duels were decided solely by the votes of the audience. Since the four winners were no longer determined within the individual groups, no coach had a secure place in the final. Finally, one candidate from each of the four groups reached the final.
All eight semi-finalists had recorded their own, newly composed song before the broadcast. After each of the four singing duels, the respective winner sang their song live on the show. The studio recordings of all eight songs, including those of the four not presented live, were offered for sale in the download shops after the broadcast had ended .
At the beginning of the show, the band Coldplay performed their song A Sky Full of Stars . Later, the band Die Fantastischen Vier performed their new song Single . Gregory Porter sang his song Hey Laura .

final
The fourth live show, the final, took place on December 12, 2014. As in the previous seasons, the winner was determined by a combination of the number of song downloads and the televoting result. The songs of the four finalists presented in the semifinals were available for download on various music portals for a fee. For each of the four finalists, a download sold by December 11, 2014 counted as many as two televoting votes on the evening of the final.
In the final show, each participant in the final performed their own song, sang a duet with their coach and another duet with a guest artist. Charley Ann Schmutzler sang with Hozier, Lina Arndt with Ed Sheeran, Andrei Vesa with Ella Henderson and Marion Campbell with Olly Murs. Lina Arndt had the most downloads before the start of the final show, but after the televoting, Charley Ann Schmutzler had the highest overall rating.
