Video Games ( Eng .: ' Video Games ') is a song by the American pop singer Lana Del Rey . The piece is the first single from their second studio album Born to Die .
Creation and artwork
The song was composed by Lana Del Rey and Justin Parker. The single was mixed and produced by Robopop. The single was mastered under the direction of the British Stuart Bruce. The song was released under the music labels Interscope Records , Polydor and Stranger. On the covers of the maxi singles - in addition to the inscription of the artist and the song title - Del Rey's upper body can be seen. There are a total of two different covers that hardly stand out from each other. The biggest difference is Del Rey's hair color.
Publication and promotion
The first release of Video Games took place on September 5, 2011 as the digital publication. The physical maxi single was first published on November 4, 2011 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . On October 17, 2011, a limited edition of 1,500 vinyl records was released, with the first 100 copies being signed by Del Rey. In December 2011, Del Rey was MTV's “Push Act” of the month. That meant she was featured on all of MTV's commercials for an entire month. This applied to all MTV stations worldwide. In an interview with UK online magazine The Quietus , Lana del Rey said that her relationship with her ex-boyfriend inspired her to write the song:
“A boy. I think we came together because we were both outsiders. It was perfect. But I think with that contentment also comes sadness. Music video
The music video for Video Games was shot and edited by Del Rey and premiered on August 19, 2011 on Del Rey's YouTube channel. The video shows excerpts from skateboarders , cartoons , film scenes from old films and paparazzi shots of the intoxicated actress Paz de la Huerta falling to the ground . In between, Del Rey can be seen again and again with his own webcam recordings . The total length of the video is 4:49 minutes. To date, the video has over 214 million views on YouTube (as of August 2019).
Following the success of Video Games , Del Rey said the following about her video clip:
“Had I known so many people were going to watch the video, I'd have put some more effort into it. I would have got my hair and make-up done and tried not to be so pouty, seeing as everyone talks about my face all the time. And I'd have put more of a storyline into it. "

Charts and chart placements
Video Games reached number one in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the top 10 for 14 weeks and in the charts for 33 weeks. In Austria the single reached position two and stayed in the top 10 for eight weeks and in the charts for 21 weeks. In Switzerland, the single also reached position two and stayed in the top 10 for ten weeks and in the charts for 30 weeks. In the UK, the single reached position ninth and stayed in the top 10 for one week and in the charts for 28 weeks. In the United States, the single reached position 91 on the charts in one week. Videogames placed to the German annual charts of 2011 in position 19 and in the charts of the year 2012 33. position Furthermore, placed video games in the charts of the year of 2012 in Austria at No. 27, in Switzerland at No. 23 and in the United Kingdom Position eight.
