Blue Velvet is a song by Tony Bennett and Percy Faith and his orchestra that became a number one hit in 1963 as Bobby Vinton's version .
Publication and Success
The piece was written by Lee Morris and Bernie Wayne and first performed live by Ray Mason in 1950. In 1951 it was recorded along with Solitaire as the double A-side by Tony Bennett and Percy Faith and released by Columbia Records . This version did not reach the Billboard Hot 100 , but was able to place itself in a few smaller charts. In 1955, the recording of the Clovers , which appeared on Atlantic Records , reached number 14 on the R&B charts. The Statues followed in 1960 at number 84 in the American pop charts. Only Bobby Vinton was able to reach number one on the Billboard Pop Charts with his version in September 1963, where the title lasted for 15 weeks. It also took second place on the UK charts for ten weeks.

2012 coverte Lana Del Rey song. The piece was the first single from their eighth EP Paradise . The single was first released on September 20, 2012 as a digital release in Europe. The release in the United States followed on September 25, 2012. In November 2012, Penguin Prison released a remixed version of the song, which was offered for free download on SoundCloud . On July 13, 2013, a 12 " vinyl record with four remixes of the song was released in France . The music video for Blue Velvet premiered on YouTube on September 19, 2012. It was directed by Johan Renck .

The music magazine Rolling Stone called Del Rey's version "sad". Carl Williot of Idolator.com described the cover as a "beautiful, dreamy and bleak version".
Del Rey's version reached number 49 in the singles charts in Germany and stayed in the charts for two weeks. In Austria the single reached number 40, in Switzerland number 42 and in the United Kingdom number 60 in the charts.
