Earl Grant
Earl Grant (born January 20, 1933 in Oklahoma City , † June 11, 1970 in Lordsburg ) was an American singer , pianist and organist . His biggest hit was the 1958 song The End .
Life
After studying at the Conservatory of Kansas City and the University of Southern California , he played in clubs and finally got a record deal . With The End (7th place), a single grant rose to the US charts for the first time in September 1958 . His 1961 album Ebb Tide also reached number 7 and stayed on the Billboard 200 for 32 weeks . By 1968 Grant released other singles that also reached the Hot 100.
Grant's easy listening music has been and is occasionally used in films. In 1959 he sang the title song for the film Imitation of Life by Douglas Sirk . Earl Grant died in 1970 while driving from Los Angeles to Juarez, Mexico , and when he drove his Rolls-Royce off the road (Interstate 10) in a curve and rolled over. 17-year-old Roosevelt Woods, Jr., the son of Grant's cousin, was also killed with him.
