Love ( English for "love") is a song by the American pop singer Lana Del Rey . The piece is the first single from their fifth studio album Lust for Life .
Creation and artwork
The song was written and produced jointly by Lana Del Rey, Emile Haynie, Benjamin Levin and Rick Nowels; they were co-produced by Kieron Menzies. The single was arranged under the direction of Menzies and Dean Reid. The mastering was done by Mike Bozzi, the mixing was done by Haynie. The single was released under the music labels Interscope Records and Polydor and distributed through EMI April Music , Global Music, Heavy Crate Publishing, Please Don't Forget to Pay Me Music, R-Rated Music, Sony / ATV Music Publishing and Universal Music Publishing .
On the cover of the maxi single - in addition to artist names and song titles - various screenshots from the music video can be seen. The focus is on Del Rey's face with closed eyes and lowered gaze, next to the close-up of her face, Del Rey is shown in the same pose, smaller, but with her entire upper body. The lower edge of the cover picture shows a kind of desert landscape , on the edge of which a woman in a dress can be seen dancing. In the background of the entire cover picture you can see the sky with different planets and a flying car.
Publication and promotion
The first publication of Love was made as a single download on February 18, 2017. To the song to advertise launched Del Rey one day before the publication of a large advertising campaign in Los Angeles , California . Poster Del Reys, with the later cover image for Love , appeared everywhere in LA without any prior information about new projects . The only difference to the later cover picture is that next to Del Reys you can also see the face of a strange man on the posters. Del Rey's first live performance with Love took place during South by Southwest in Austin , Texas on March 17, 2017.

In January 2017, Del Rey registered the song with the original title "Young and in Love", why it was changed to "Love" is not yet known. The music and lyrics were written jointly by Lana Del Rey, Emile Haynie, Benjamin Levin and Rick Nowels. Musically, the song moves in the area of downtempo and pop music . The tempo is 99 beats per minute . The instrumentalists include Haynie (drums), Levin (keyboard and drums), Nowels (bass, keyboard instruments and vibraphone) and Reid (electric guitar).
During the chorus, Del Rey initially refers to the general public in her statements and describes the story in an authorial narrative situation ; in the last refrain, she sings it in relation to herself in the first- person narrative situation . In terms of content, Love is about the fact that the world belongs to the "young and in love", but that this is no reason to destroy it.

Music video
The music video for Love premiered on February 20, 2017 on YouTube . First the video starts in black and white with Del Rey (in a dress and with flowers in her hair) playing the song on a stage with her band. Alternately colored scenes of couples can be seen. These couples can be seen sitting in Del Rey's audience in the following scene. After panning through the audience, the camera focuses again on Del Rey, specifically zooms in on her eye, which reflects a starry sky. The camera pans again in the direction of the audience, above whom the earth and the sun can suddenly be seen. In the following scenes, the protagonists can be seen floating in space and Del Rey and her band singing the song on the surface of the moon . The video ends with the couple who spend time together and, among other things, are on a speedboat , swim, walk through a desert landscape, visit a restaurant and at the end watch a solar eclipse . The total length of the video is 4:54 minutes. Directed by Rich Lee, the music video was produced by Native. To date, the music video has over 135 million clicks on YouTube (as of December 2018).
The shooting of Love took place on four days of shooting on June 30th and from July 5th to 7th, 2016 in Los Angeles. The dedicated hairdresser Anna Cofone shared pictures of her makeup set on her Instagram profile, but these were quickly deleted.

Eve Marlow of Pitchfork Media named Love "Best New Track" and described the song as "Ode" which one would allow themselves to feel and would reassure the audience that the feeling is still rising, that love can not conquer.
Stephan Müller from the German-language online magazine plattentests.de awarded seven out of ten points for the album Lust for Life and highlighted Love as one of the “highlights” of the album.
Charts and chart placements
Love reached position 68 in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the charts for a total of three weeks. In Austria the single reached position 43 in three chart weeks, in Switzerland position 27 in five chart weeks, in the United Kingdom also position 41 in five chart weeks and in the United States position 44 in two chart weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 . Furthermore, Love is number one in the US rock digital song sales . Del Rey thus reached the top position on this chart list for the first time and replaced Young and Beautiful ( top position two) as the most successful contribution to date. So far, the single has sold over 46,000 times.
For Del Rey as a performer, Love is already the 16th chart success in the United Kingdom, the 13th in Switzerland, the eleventh in Austria and the tenth in Germany and the United States. As an author, it is her 15th chart success in the United Kingdom, as well as the twelfth in Switzerland and the zente in Germany, Austria and the United States. For the sixth time, a single from her was able to simultaneously place in the DA-CH , UK and US charts.

Awards for music sales
Love was awarded a gold record in Italy in 2018 for over 25,000 units sold. On August 2, 2019, it was awarded a silver record in the UK for 200,000 copies sold. Thus, Love has been awarded silver and gold once in Europe. In the United States, the single has been proven to sell over 46,000 copies, so Love sold at least 270,000 copies worldwide.
