Summer Bummer ( English for "Summer Rumtreiber" or "Summer Bum") is a song by the US pop singer Lana Del Rey , in cooperation with the two US rappers A $ AP Rocky and Playboi Carti. The piece is the fourth single from their fifth studio album Lust for Life .
Creation and artwork
The song was written jointly by Big White Beats, Playboi Carti, Lana Del Rey, Rakim Mayers (ASAP Rocky), Matthew Samuels, Jahaan Sweet and Tyler Williams. The single was produced by Boi 1da (Matthew Samuels) and Jahaan Sweet, with Del Rey and Rick Nowels assisting them as executive producers . The piece was arranged under the direction of Hector Delgado, Kieron Menzies, Dean Reid and Trevor Yasuda. The mastering was done by Adam Ayan, the mixing was done by Menzies and Reid. Programming work, such as the programming of the synthesizers, was carried out by T-Minus. The piece was recorded in the Record Plant in Los Angeles (United States) and in the Hampstead Studios in London ( United Kingdom ). The single was released under the music labels Interscope Records and Polydor and distributed by 1damentional Publishing, A $ AP Rocky Music Publishing , Sony / ATV Music Publishing , Sony / ATV Songs LLC & Warner-Tamerlane Publishing , Stellar Songs and The Sweet Life.
On the cover of the maxi single - in addition to the artist name and song title - Del Rey's upper body can be seen at dusk against the backdrop of a city. She is wearing a black shirt and is sucking a lollipop . As with numerous Del Rey projects before, the artwork and photography are again by Neil Krug. He received support from Mat Maitland in editing it.
Publication and promotion
On June 3, 2017, Del Rey published with the words "We made a lot of good ones but I think we picked the best ones for the record" ( English for "We have written a lot of good pieces and I think we have the best for." the record selected ”) for the first time a teaser about Summer Bummer on Instagram . The piece celebrated its world premiere on July 12, 2017 in the radio show of the British DJ MistaJam on the radio station BBC Radio 1 and in Zane Lowe's radio show Beats 1 . The single was first published two days later as a download on July 14, 2017.

In Summer Bummer is already the second musical collaboration between Del Rey and A $ AP Rocky. They also recorded the piece Groupie Love for Lust for Life . This was also released as a download single, the day before Summer Bummer , on July 13, 2017. Compared to Summer Bummer , Groupie Love did not have any noteworthy chart successes in official charts.
Del Rey and Rocky have worked together many times in the past. In 2012, Rocky made an appearance as John F. Kennedy in Del Rey's music video for National Anthem . In the same year the song Ridin 'was written . The piece was originally supposed to appear on the mixtape Follow the Leaders by The KickDrums, but the decision was made not to publish the piece due to a leak .

Toni Hennig from the German-language online magazine laut.de awarded five stars out of a possible five for the album Lust for Life . In Summer Bummer you perceive the "beats" slowly and decelerated. The "rap parts" by Playboy Carti and A $ ap Rocky seem to take some getting used to. Hennig is of the opinion that the listener should have no fear of contact because of Del Rey's "smoky" and "lascivious" voice.
Stephan Müller from the German-language online magazine plattentests.de awarded seven out of ten points for the album. The passion is happy to hide in morbid romance, apart from Summer Bummer , which he described as "vacation fuck".
Washington Post's Chris Richards described Summer Bummer as the most narcotic piece of Lust for Life . It is a kind of repetition of Del Rey's hit Summertime Sadness , it is just a little more "evocative" than its predecessor.

Summer Bummer reached position 81 in the UK singles charts and stayed in the charts for a total of two weeks. In Germany, the single was only able to place itself in the daily evaluations of the German iTunes charts for one day , where it reached position 99.
For Del Rey as a performer, Lust for Life is already the 19th chart success in the UK. As a writer, it is her 18th chart success in the UK charts. For Rocky it is the ninth chart success as a performer and the eighth as a writer in the UK. For Carti it is the first chart success in the British charts.
Samuels reached the singles charts in the United Kingdom for the twelfth time in his work as a writer or producer. For Williams as a writer, Summer Bummer is the seventh chart success in the British charts. The two authors Big White Beats and Jahaan Sweet reached the British single charts for the first time.
