Paradise ( Eng .: 'Paradise') is the second EP by the American pop singer Lana Del Rey . The EP was added to a remake of Del Rey's album Born to Die , which is available as Born to Die - The Paradise Edition . As a physical sound carrier - CD or vinyl - Paradise is mostly available in this bundle; in Germany, for example , Paradise is only available as a download independent of the new Born to Die edition.

Creation and artwork

With the exception of Blue Velvet , all songs were composed by Lana Del Rey in cooperation with changing composers. The composer Rick Nowels took part most often . All tracks were produced by different music producers, most of the tracks were produced by Dan Heath and Rick Nowels. The album was mastered by Metropolis Mastering in London , under the direction of the British John Davis. All songs by Jeremy Cochise Ball, Tom Elmhirst, Kieron Menzies, Robert Orton, Jeff Rothschild and Andrew Scheps were mixed. The album was released under the music labels Interscope Records , Polydor and Stranger. On the cover of the album - in addition to the inscription of the artist and the song title - Del Rey can be seen in a beige swimsuit, against the background of two palm trees and a swimming pool. The cover picture and the pictures in the booklet were shot by photographer Nicole Nodland. Del Rey tweeted a first teaser on September 24, 2012.

Publication and promotion

The album was first released on November 9, 2012, both digitally and physically, in Australia and the UK . The release in the USA followed on November 13, 2012. The album was released on November 16, 2012 in Germany , Austria and Switzerland . The album consists of eight new studio recordings. In addition to the regular album release, the releases of many “deluxe editions” followed at the same time. The North American iTunes Deluxe Edition has been expanded to include another studio recording of Burning Desire . Other deluxe editions published worldwide include remix versions of singles that were previously released.

Del Rey himself said the following about the release of this EP:

“It's not a new album, it's more like an afterthought, it's the Paradise edition of Born to Die. It's like seven new songs that kind of put a period on the statement that I was making when I was making the record. It's beautiful. "

“It's not a new album, it's more like a look-up, it's the paradise version of Born to Die . There are seven new songs that put a kind of exclamation mark behind the artistic statement I made with the album. It is wonderful."

Track list

All lyrics are written entirely in English. Musically, the songs move in the field of pop , indie pop , trip hop and sadcore . For each of her songs she was supported by various instrumentalists (see contributors). The song Yayo was released four years earlier on Del Rey's first EP Kill Kill and two years earlier on Del Rey's debut album Lana Del Ray aka Lizzy Grant .

John Bush from Allmusic noted that the lyrics were written in a more profane language compared to their predecessor . a. also has to do with descriptions of sexual encounters in the new plays.

Single releases

Two months before the EP was released, on September 20 and September 25, 2012, the singles Blue Velvet and Ride were released in advance . Both singles were able to place in the German, Austrian, Swiss and British charts. Five months after the EP release, on March 19, 2013, the third single Burning Desire was released for promotional purposes . The single missed the charts worldwide. Due to high download numbers, the song Gods & Monsters was able to place itself in the British charts in November 2012 , but it was not officially published.
