Brooklyn Baby is a song that American pop singer Lana Del Rey wrote with Barrie O'Neill. The piece is the fourth and final single from their third studio album Ultraviolence .

Creation and artwork

The song was produced by Dan Auerbach . Brooklyn Baby was mastered by Metropolis Mastering in London , under the direction of the British John Davis. The song was mixed by Robert Orton. Next to Del Rey, the voice of the singer Seth Kaufman can be heard in the background. The instrumentalists were Dan Auerbach on electric guitar, Seth Kaufman on electric guitar and percussion instruments , Leon Michaels on mellotron , percussion, tambourine and tenor saxophone, Nick Movshon on bass and drums, Russ Pahl on acoustic guitar and the Pedal steel guitar, Kenny Vaughan on acoustic guitar and Maximilian Weissenfeldt on drums. The arrangement was written by Collin Dupuis. The song was released under the music labels Interscope Records and Polydor . On the black and white cover of the maxi single - next to the inscription of the artist and the song title - you can see Del Rey sitting in a Mercedes-Benz . The cover picture was shot by the American photographer Neil Krug.

Publication and promotion

The single was first released on June 17, 2014 as a digital release. There has been no official publication as a physical sound carrier until today.

Live performances by Brooklyn Baby in radio or radio were missing in Germany, Austria and Switzerland to this day. She only played the song live at her concerts.

Rolling Stone's Miriam Coleman described Del Rey's voice as "breathy" and called the tune of the song "nostalgic like a girl group song of the 1960s".

Sharan Shetty of Slate Magazine dislikes the lack of “big, tough voice on the hooks ” and notes that Del Rey's “muffled languor” is sometimes boring. She compliments the melody of the song.

Duncan Cooper of the music magazine The Fader says Brooklyn Baby is the standout piece on the album. He highlights the following “unusually self-confident piece of jewelry”: “Yeah, my boyfriend's really cool / But he's not as cool as me” (Yes, my boyfriend is pretty cool, but not as cool as me).
