content

The lyrics to High by the Beach are written entirely in English; Translated into German, the title means " Rausch am Strand". The music and lyrics were co-written by Lana Del Rey, Kieron Menzies and Rick Nowels . Musically, the song moves in the realm of trap and pop music . It's a torch song . It includes several lyrical themes such as self-irony, nihilism , independence, and convenience. The song specifically describes a Del Rey, tired of life and love, who seeks escape by the sea enjoying recreational drug use. An unworthy ex-lover is also gutted, in the song Del Rey falls into anger and tells her former partner: “Don't need your money, money to get me what I want / Lights, camera, acción / I'll do it on my own “( English for 'Don't need your money. Money to give me what I want. / Lights, camera, action / I will do it myself'). This is also a reference to her 2010 song Put Me in a Movie . The instruments were played by Kieron Menzies (bass, effects, sampler and drums), Leon Michels (flute), Rick Nowels (keyboard, organ and synth) and Patrick Warren (harmonium and piano).

"All I want to do is get high by the beach,
get high by the beach, get high.
All I wanna do is get by by the beach,
get by baby, baby, bye bye.

The truth is I never bought into your bullshit,
when you would pay tribute to me cause I know that.
All I wanted to do was get high by the beach,
get high baby, baby, bye bye. "

- Refrain, original excerpt

“All I want to do is get on the beach, get
on the beach, get on it.
All I wanna do is get to the beach,
get darling, darling, take care.

The truth is, I never bought your nonsense
when you showed me your approval.
All I want to do is get on the beach, get
darling, darling, take care. "

- Refrain, translation

The song was created with the chorus inspired by a period when Del Rey frequently drove to the beach. In an interview with Apple Music , she said, “It had an Andrew Sisters vibe. The harmony sounded almost monotonous. It had this strange monotony, but with this beat it had a trap appearance. "

Music video

The music video for High by the Beach premiered on August 13, 2015 on YouTube . The entire video was filmed using the wobble camera technique . At the beginning of the video, Del Rey steps into a balcony of a beach house, wearing a low-cut pinafore dress and a sheer black bra . She sees a black helicopter and goes back into the house. She enters a bedroom, where she poses in front of a mirror before collapsing and rolling on a mattress. Then Del Rey goes downstairs to the kitchen and flips through a magazine that includes an article entitled “Starlett Goes Overboard” ( English for “Celebrities Goes Overboard” ). Suddenly the helicopter moves closer to the building and Del Rey watches this from her window. When the helicopter is directly in front of her, she turns her back on it and poses for the press photographer in it. Suddenly she runs outside to the beach and takes out a guitar case from among a pile of stones. When she then returns to the balcony, she opens the guitar case there and takes out a large gun with which she shoots down the helicopter. The gun is a gray painted Nerf Longshot . With the explosion, in addition to the wreckage of the helicopter, burning clippings of the newspaper Del Rey read earlier fly around. The video ends with Del Rey walking slowly back into the house with the gun. The total length of the video is 4:57 minutes. The British director Jake Nava directed the film .
