Once Upon a Dream ( Eng .: 'Once in a dream') is a duet by the American singers Mary Costa and Bill Shirley.

The song was composed by Sammy Fain and Jack Lawrence. The song served as the soundtrack for the Walt Disney animated film Sleeping Beauty . It was first published in 1959 on the associated sampler for the Sleeping Beauty film. A single was not released. The song was released under the Disneyland music label.

On the cover of the single, as with all single releases, the advertising image for the film Maleficent - The Dark Fairy can be seen, with the inscription of the artist and the song title. The single was first released on January 26, 2014, in the United States. The release in Germany, Austria and Switzerland followed one day later on January 27, 2014. The song was only released as a single downloadable single. In the first week of release, the song was still available for free download from Google Play . From February 4, 2014, Once Upon a Dream was only available for purchase. Angelina Jolie plays the lead role in the film and selected Del Rey herself as the singer for the song.

The American Forbes Magazine called the song "moody and inconspicuous". Stereogum, on the other hand, described Del Rey's version as "raving and weird". Hypable described this version as "much darker" than the original and emphasized the "slight radio effect", the voice called it "unforgettable". Complex consider this interpretation to be "dark and eerie" compared to the original.
Charts and chart placements Once Upon a Dream reached position 60 in the UK single charts and stayed in the charts for a total of two weeks. For Lana Del Rey it is the tenth chart success as an interpreter in Great Britain.
