◀   Season 7 Season 9   ▶

The eighth season of the singing talent show The Voice of Germany was broadcast on television from October 18 to December 16, 2018. Like the three previous seasons , it was moderated by Thore Schölermann and Lena Gercke . The jury included the jury duo Smudo and Michi Beck from the hip-hop band Die Fantastischen Vier , the singer and actress Yvonne Catterfeld , the singer and songwriter Mark Forster and, for the first time, the singer and songwriter Michael Patrick Kelly . The winner was Samuel Rösch from Michael Patrick Kelly's coaching group.

First phase: the blind auditions

In February and March 2018, open castings for the eighth season were held in several major German cities , but they are not shown on television. Around 150 applicants who had qualified in these “scoutings” received an invitation to the “blind auditions”. These were recorded from July 1 to 6, 2018 in the Adlershof studio in Berlin and broadcast in nine television programs from October 18 to November 15, 2018 on the TV channels ProSieben and Sat.1 . The jury selected 76 candidates - 37 women, 38 men and 1 trio - for the second phase, in which all four coaches with 19 participants each moved in.

The candidates Alessandro Rütten, Matthias Nebel, Coby Grant, Giuliano De Stefano, Jeanie Celina Schultheiß, Sascha Coles, Bernarda Brunovic, Judith Jandl, Fabian Riaz, Clifford Dwenger, Shireen Nikolic, Igor Quennehen, Guido Goh, Kaye-Ree received all four jury votes , Mark Agpas, Laura Neels, Juliane Götz, Mascha Winkels, Felicia Peters, Jélila Bouraoui, Debora Vater, Sinem Uraz and Dominik Hartz. Of these 23, 7 opted for Michi and Smudo, 6 for Michael Patrick Kelly, 6 for Mark Forster and 4 for Yvonne Catterfeld as coach.

Second phase: the battle round

The Battle Round was recorded in Berlin from August 29th to 31st, 2018 and broadcast in four television programs from November 18th to 29th, 2018. In Mark Forster's group, 18 candidates fought nine one-on-one duels; his candidate Mark Agpas could not take part in the planned three-man battle for health reasons, but he received a wildcard for the future ninth season. In the other three groups, the 19 candidates fought eight one-on-one duels and one three-way battle. The respective coach selected a participant from each battle directly into the next phase. As in the third to seventh seasons, the other jurors could each take on an inferior battle candidate ( steal deal ), so that all four coaching groups with ten participants went into the next phase. For the first time a trio qualified for the third phase, as Mark Forster took Misses Melaza with him to the sing offs.
