Luis Fonsi
Luis Fonsi (* 15. April 1978 as Luis Alfonso Rodríguez López-Cepero in San Juan, Puerto Rico ) is an American Latin pop - singer and composer . His greatest success in 2017 was the song Despacito .
biography
Luis Fonsi was born in Puerto Rico in 1978 and moved his family to Orlando , Florida at a young age . From the age of ten he had the desire to become a member of the Latin American boy band Menudo , which he was unable to realize. He worked in several lesser-known boy bands, including the band Big Guys , where he became friends with the later * NSYNC member Joey Fatone . In 1995 Fonsi began studying music at Florida State University . He returned to the stage in April 2005 when he was invited by former Menudo member Ray Reyes to give a concert with Adamari López .
Music career
While studying, he recorded demo songs in Miami . The President of the Music Student Council discovered Fonsi's talent and arranged a record deal with a large record company. In 1998 Luis Fonsi recorded his first CD, Comenzaré (I will begin), which became a hit in Latin America . The next CD, Eterno (Ewig), which followed in 2000, was just as successful. At that time he also sang a duet with Christina Aguilera for her Spanish-language album Mi Reflejo .
In the meantime, Fonsi was also successful in Spain and sang for Pope John Paul II at the turn of the millennium . In the same year Ednita Nazario won a Latin Grammy for a song composed by Fonsi. In addition, on the occasion of September 11th, he performed with various other artists in the White House .
2001 remixes of the two albums Comenzaré and Eterno were made while Fonsi was working on his next album, Amor Secreto (Secret Love), which was released in 2002. His first English-language album, Fight the Feeling, followed in the same year . In 2004 he worked with ex-Spice-Girl Emma Bunton for her second solo album Free Me .
Fonsi's fifth CD Abrazar la Vida (Embracing Life) opened up new markets for him in Europe thanks to its sales quota , and the single ¿Quién te dijo eso? (Who told you this?) Reached high places in the charts. With his sixth album Paso a Paso (Step by Step) he became internationally known. The single Nada es para siempre (Nothing is forever) peaked at the top of the charts and earned Fonsi a nomination for the Latin Grammy Awards.
In 2006 Fonsi released his first best-of album Éxitos 98:06 (successes 98:06). In September 2008 the album Palabras del Silencio (Words of Silence) followed. With the single No me doy por vencido (I do not give up) he reached the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time (initially number 98, then number 92) and also number 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks . On October 10, 2008, Fonsi gave a private concert for the 700 winners of a Pepsi- sponsored competition. On December 11, 2009, he performed at the award ceremony for the Nobel Peace Prize to Barack Obama in Oslo .
In spring 2017, Fonsi achieved a worldwide hit with Daddy Yankee with the single Despacito and reached top 10 positions in numerous European countries as well as number one in the German , Austrian , Swiss , Italian and Spanish music charts . The official music video also became the first video released on the YouTube platform in 2017 to hit two billion views. Since August 2017, Despacito has been the most watched video on YouTube with over 6 billion views , replacing the music video for See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth .
On November 19, 2017, Fonsi released the song Échame la culpa as a follow-up to Despacito together with the American singer and actress Demi Lovato . This track was also able to reach number one in Spain and numerous Latin American countries as well as the top 10 in Germany, Italy and Switzerland, among others.
Acting career
In 2004 Luis Fonsi made his debut in the Mexican telenovela Corazones Al Limite (Hearts on the Limit) in the role of Roy.
Private life
When his girlfriend Adamari López was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 while on tour, Fonsi canceled his concerts in order to stay with her until she was released in 2006. In June 2006, Fonsi and López married in Guaynabo , Puerto Rico. In November 2009, the couple announced their divorce.
