Latin Pop is a style of pop music that integrates rhythmic and melodic elements from Latin American music .
history
As early as the 1950s , isolated Latin American elements were integrated into Schlager melodies. In the 1960s, rock music then seized the rhythmic legacy, especially of traditional Caribbean and Mexican musical styles, which led to the development of Latin rock ( Santana and others).
A real and commercially successful mix of pop and Latin did not come about until the 1980s . The world hit Lambada by Kaoma (1989) stood out here. In the 1990s , Latin American rhythms and melodies were increasingly mixed with soul and R&B influences (e.g. Jennifer Lopez , Shakira , Selena ), but other, hitherto lesser-known rhythms were also included in Latin pop (e.g. . Cumbia Romántica ). The use of dance beats combined with Latin American harmonies ( Paulina Rubio ) is also characteristic of Latin pop since the 1990s . The spectrum of the Latin Pop style is now very broad.
In the 2010s, Latin pop increasingly blurred with reggaeton . Artists like Enrique Iglesias , Luis Fonsi and J Balvin represented this crossover and achieved worldwide success. With songs from this crossroads, the focus is on the harmony of individual stylistic devices, rhythm and timbre. Representative Luis Fonsi described the direction as "the new pop".
