Cumbia Romántica

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cumbia Romántica is a very successful Argentine modification of the Colombian cumbia . It originated around 1990 in the milieu of workers who immigrated from the northeastern provinces of Argentina in Buenos Aires and Santa Fe , but only became a mass phenomenon around 1995.

The Cumbia Romantica is characterized by greasy lyrics, catchy melodies and electronic influences, so that it is very close to pop. Many bands were also put together like boy groups in castings and gave playback shows. Nonetheless, there are also bands that have earned the respect of many critics, such as Ráfaga and the humorous Amar Azul .

The dress code of the bands of this music genre is very glamorous, the bands mainly use old-fashioned Spanish suits from the 19th century and wear clearly visible jewelry, which led to the movement being also known as Cumbia Glamurosa (glamorous cumbia).

As a countermovement to the Cumbia Romantica, the Cumbia Villera was created in 1999 .
