Whenever, Wherever ( English for "whenever, wherever") is a song by the Colombian singer Shakira . The song is the first single from their fifth studio album Laundry Service and was released on August 27, 2001. After four albums of Spanish songs, it was the singer's first English single. At the same time a Spanish version of the song called Suerte was released .

Whenever, Wherever was produced by Shakira together with the American music producer Tim Mitchell. The lyrics were written by Shakira, Tim Mitchell and singer Gloria Estefan .
Music video
The music video for Whenever, Wherever was shot by US director Francis Lawrence using green screen technology and has more than 518 million views on YouTube (as of May 2020).
It shows Shakira singing and dancing the song while being surrounded by various natural phenomena. At the beginning of the video she emerges from the ocean and jumps onto a rock where the waves break. Then she runs through a desert where she is surrounded by running horses. Shortly afterwards she crawls through the mud in the middle of a mountain range and dances on a snow-capped peak. At the end of the video, she jumps off the mountain back into the sea.
At the 2002 Latin Grammy Awards , the music video received awards in the Best Short Form Music Video category .

Whenever, Wherever entered the German charts at number 1 on February 4, 2002 and stayed at the top for eleven weeks. In total, the song was represented in the top 100 for 24 weeks, of which 16 weeks in the top 10 . In the German annual charts in 2002 the single took second place. Whenever, Wherever also reached first place in Austria, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Ireland , among others , Portugal, Greece, Spain and Hungary.
