Kris Kross Amsterdam is a Dutch DJ - and producers - Trio from Amsterdam . The group consists of the DJs Jordy and Sander Huisman and the MC Yuki Kempees. They mix EDM and house with R&B , hip-hop , funk and soul . They became better known for their hits Sex with Cheat Codes and Are You Sure? with Ty Dolla $ ign and Conor Maynard .
history
Foundation and first success through parties
Kris Kross Amsterdam was founded in June 2011 by the brothers Jordy and Sander Huisman. At the time, the two complained that the music in Amsterdam's clubs was too dominated by techno and house. They missed the typical 90s sounds.
To change this, they threw parties under the name "Kris Kross". Because of the great success of the parties, the two were from now on booked as DJs under this name . They then kept the name and expanded it to include the reference to their hometown "Amsterdam". Kris Kross Amsterdam is a tribute to the 90s and an homage to the hip hop duo Kris Kross , who had a hit with the song Jump at the time . In the summer of 2014, MC Yuki Kempees joined the DJ brothers and thus completed the DJ collective.
International breakthrough with sex
In 2015 Kris Kross Amsterdam signed a record deal with Spinnin 'Records . Shortly thereafter, their first single Until the Morning was released , together with Choco. In February 2016, the three Dutchmen published the title Sex together with the American DJ trio Cheat Codes . This contains a sample of the Salt-n-Pepa song Let's Talk About Sex in the chorus . The publication meant the international breakthrough for both artist trios. Sex rose to top positions in the national charts in many countries, including 14th place in Germany and 2nd place in the Netherlands. Sex was also streamed over 400 million times on Spotify . It also reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot Dance / Electronic Charts . Due to the success of the song, Kris Kross Amsterdam played this year in Ibiza and at many well-known EDM festivals , such as the Amsterdam Dance Event and Tomorrowland in Belgium. At the Mysteryland Festival they act as the host of their own stage.
Anniversary, Are You Sure? and Whenever
In December 2016 Kris Kross Amsterdam celebrated their fifth anniversary with a big party in different locations all over Amsterdam . In keeping with this, they produced a documentary entitled 5 Years , which shows the lives of the three members and their rise to an internationally known DJ trio. To consolidate this status, they released the song Are You Sure? with a vocal performance by Conor Maynard and a rap part by Ty Dolla $ ign . This song also entered the charts and was streamed over 27 million times on Spotify .
On June 22, 2018, the trio released the song Whenever . Here they worked again with Conor Maynard. In addition, they brought the Dutch producer Lex van Berkel alias The Boy Next Door into the studio. Behind the song is a cover version of the Latin pop song Whenever, Wherever by Shakira from 2001. The cover version made it into the official singles charts of, among others, Germany, Great Britain and in the dance and category Electronic in the USA.
The follow-up Vámonos went online on September 13, 2018 . This is a Spanish-language Latin pop collaboration with Fifth Harmony singer Ally Brooke and the American rapper Messiah.
Success with lyrics in Dutch
In 2018 and 2019, Kris Kross Amsterdam released several songs, the lyrics of which are sung in Dutch. To do this, they worked with some Dutch singers and rappers, including Kraantje Pappie and Nielson . With Hij is van mij ("He belongs to me") they made it to the top of the Dutch charts and stayed there for 7 weeks.
