Mysteryland is an annual festival of electronic dance music in the Netherlands . It was first held in 1993 and has grown to over 110,000 visitors to this day. The Mysteryland is considered to be the main inspiration behind Tomorrowland .

history

The Mysteryland was brought into being in 1993 by the organizer ID&T , making it the oldest festival of its kind. It was held at the Midland Circuit motor sports track in Lelystad , the Netherlands . With DJs like Buzz Fuzz, Gizmo and The Prophet , the festival specialized in harder styles like hardcore techno and gabber . In the following years, the Mysteryland changed its location annually, while it was canceled in 1995.

In 2003 the festival moved to the Floriade site in Haarlemmermeer , where it is still held today. In the course of the years the program changed increasingly, whereby the stylistic traits also experienced all changes. Appearances were made by DJs such as Armin van Buuren , David Guetta , Hardwell and Tiësto , with which the style has been generalized as EDM as the festival scene has grown since the 2010s.

The event is organized partly in the open air, but partly also in tents.

In 2011 an offshoot of the festival took place in Chile for the first time . This was converted into a US version in 2014, but it was canceled in 2017.
