Allyson "Ally" Brooke Hernandez (born July 7, 1993 in San Antonio , Texas , United States ) is an American singer who is best known as a member of the girl group Fifth Harmony , which is in the second season of the US edition was founded by The X Factor . Since 2017 she has been active as a solo artist with the record label Atlantic Records .

Life

Brooke was born to Jerry Hernandez and Patricia Castillo in the Texas metropolis of San Antonio , where she grew up. She was born six weeks prematurely. She is of Mexican descent and has an older brother. She attended Cornerstone Christian Elementary School in San Antonio and completed her high school degree via home schooling . She describes the Texan singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez as a significant influence.

Career

The X Factor and Fifth Harmony

Brooke performed the song On My Knees by Jaci Velasquez at the auditions of The X Factor in Austin , near her hometown of San Antonio. In her boot camp round, she sang the song Knockin 'on Heaven's Door in a duel against Jullia Bullock . She was eliminated during that round, but was brought back into the race as the girl group Fifth Harmony along with Dinah Jane, Normani , Lauren Jauregui and Camila Cabello . The group made it to the live shows and came in third.

After the finale of The X Factor, Fifth Harmony signed a record deal with “ Syco Music ” and “ Epic Records ”. The group released their first EP Better Together in 2013, followed by studio albums Reflection in 2015 and 7/27 in 2016. On August 25, 2017, their self-titled third studio album Fifth Harmony was released . On March 19, 2018, the group announced that they wanted to concentrate on their solo projects for the time being.

Solo career

Brooke could also be heard solo during the Fifth Harmony days. Together with the American DJ duo Lost Kings, she could be heard alongside the rapper A $ AP Ferg in the song Look at Us Now . The song was released on June 9, 2017. A debut solo concert by Brooke in São Paulo was scheduled for July 2017, but the show was canceled. Together with the Spanish opera singer Plácido Domingo , she performed two songs in the Lila Cockrell Theater of the Convention Center in San Antonio on January 24, 2018 . On January 26th, 2018 the German DJ and producer Topic released the song Topic , for which Brooke contributed the vocals. The official music video in which she can be seen also appeared at the same time. She sang the song during an episode of "Nick Cannon Presents: Wild 'n Out" and the WE Day in Illinois in March 2018. In Germany and Austria, the song advanced into the official singles charts.

In early 2018, Brooke joined the other members of Fifth Harmony on an episode of Lip Sync Battle , performing a medley of songs by Selena and Jennifer Lopez . In March 2018, Brooke sang on the 2018 Academy Awards red carpet show , televised on E! News, a medley of various Oscar- winning songs like Beauty and the Beast and My Heart Will Go On . On March 12, 2018, she signed a record deal with "Maverick Entertainment". Brooke starred as herself in a season two episode of Famous in Love .

In April 2018, Brooke confirmed that she was working with the producer team 1500 or Nothin ' on her debut solo album. In August 2018 it was announced that Brooke had signed a record deal with "Latium Entertainment" or "Atlantic Records". The company also announced that Brooke is expected to release her first solo single in the fall of 2018.

On November 13, 2018, she announced that she would be performing a cover version of the Christmas classic Last Christmas by Wham! as a single. At the "Fusion Festival" in Liverpool she presented a collaboration with the US DJ trio Kris Kross Amsterdam and rapper Messiah, which is titled Vámonos and was released on November 23, 2018.

On January 31, 2019, Brooke and rapper Tyga released their debut single Low Key , which she presented on the Orange Carpet at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and the Late Late Show . Brooke also went on a promotion tour in which she presented her song in Berlin on April 29th at a hangout from Bravo .

On May 24, 2019, she released her second single Lips Don't Lie with rapper A Boogie wit da Hoodie . From September to November 2019, she will be part of the 28th season of the US dance show Dancing with the Stars . On September 16, 2019, she released her third single, Higher . In January 2020, Ally Brooke announced her first solo tour, Time To Shine . She has been touring North America since March 6, 2020.

philanthropy

In addition to Fifth Harmony, Brooke has worked for various charities such as DoSomething.org and the Ryan Seacrest Foundation . She has also participated in ASPCA activities. Brooke is an ambassador for March of Dimes , a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. On December 23, 2016, she held a so-called "Toy Drive" in her hometown of San Antonio, which benefited children in the local hospitals.
