Sale el sol ( Spanish for "the sun rises") is a studio album by the Colombian singer Shakira that was released on October 15, 2010 . It is their ninth studio album.

background

The mostly Spanish-language album Sale el sol is musically based on the Latin rock of the albums Pies descalzos and ¿Dónde están los ladrones? , but also contains elements of merengue and other Latin American music styles. In contrast to its predecessor She Wolf , which was strongly characterized by dance and electronic styles, it is returning to its Latin American roots. The two singles Loca and Rabiosa have been recorded in both English and Spanish and are found twice on the Album. The first single Loca (with Dizzee Rascal as a duet partner) was released in a Spanish version with El Cata, who also appears at Rabiosa instead of Pitbull as a guest musician in the Spanish edition.

Among the 16 songs (plus bonus tracks) is the official song of the 2010 soccer World Cup, Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) , which was released in June 2010.

The album was received differently. While it was largely positively reviewed by the US media, Josef Gasteiger from laut.de criticized the record for its lack of substance and described most of the songs as unspectacular. The site Plattentests.de only rated the album as average. Her voice is praised, with which she stands out from the crowd, but one has the feeling that Shakira adapts to sales strategies and does not orientate herself in a clear direction with the album.

At the Latin Grammy Awards 2011 Sale el sol was named the best album by a singer. It also won the "Latin Album of the Year", "Latin Pop Album of the Year" and "Latin Digital Album of the Year" categories at the Billboard Latin Awards.

Commercial win

The album topped the charts in six countries: Belgium, France, Croatia, Mexico, Portugal and Spain.
