Laundry Service (dt. Laundry ) is the first English-language album of Shakira . It was released on November 13, 2001, sold a total of 13 million copies and was one of the best-selling albums in 2002. The album was released in two other versions, Laundry Service: Washed & Dried and a Spanish version as Servicio de Lavanderia .

style

The dominant style of the album is rock . When recording the album with live musicians, they worked with Terry Manning , who had also worked with AC / DC , Lenny Kravitz and Led Zeppelin . Shakira's vocal performance is convincing and her singing style is compared to that of Alanis Morissette . In some pieces the influence of their origins comes to the fore, so that in Whenever, Wherever a panpipe can be heard , in Objection (Tango) a bandoneon and in Eyes Like Yours samba influences .

Texts

Shakira wrote the lyrics for the album alone. To write it in English, she had to buy dictionaries, read English poetry, and authors such as Walt Whitman and Leonard Cohen . In the songs she deals with everyday things. So act Ready For The Good Times by a cockroach and Poem To A Horse of a dispute with a stoned friend. In addition, she deals with love in her texts, as in Rules and The One . She also describes her love for the city of Madrid with the song Te Dejo Madrid .

The last two titles are the Spanish versions of Objection (Tango) and Whenever, Wherever and show their linguistic origins.
