In other ways is a song by the German pop singer Andreas Bourani . The track is the second single from his second studio album Hey .
Creation and artwork
The song was written by Andreas Bourani and Julius Hartog. The single was recorded and produced by Philipp Steinke and Peter “Jem” Seifert ; They were supported by Bourani and Hartog as co-producers. It was mastered and mixed in the Blacksheep studio in Düsseldorf under the direction of Seifert and the Skyline Tonfabrik with Kai Blankenberg. Matthias Bartolomey on cello , Klemens Bittmann on violin , Julius Hartog on acoustic guitar and Philipp Steinke on bass and piano were hired as musicians . The song was released under the music label Vertigo Records and distributed through Universal Music Publishing .
On the yellow and black cover of the maxi single - in addition to artist name and song title - Bourani can be seen from behind with outstretched arms. The cover picture was shot by Dirk Rudolph and Harald Hoffmann. The artwork comes from the Dirk Rudolph office.
Publication and promotion
The first publication of On other ways took place on October 23, 2014 as a download. A physical sound carrier was released one day later on October 24, 2014 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . Due to the high number of downloads, the piece hit the charts even before its official release.
In order to promote the song, there followed, among other things, live appearances in the Helene Fischer Show 2014 and the 2015 single annual chart edition of the ultimate chart show as well as an acoustic appearance in the ARD morning magazine . During a live performance at the 2015 Echo Awards , Bourani was supported musically by the American violinist Lindsey Stirling .
Bundesvision Song Contest 2014
Bourani took part in the Bundesvision Song Contest 2014 for his home state Bavaria with the piece and took sixth place with 81 points. From his home country he got the highest score of the evening with 10/12 points. He got at least one point from all other federal states . By 2015, with 315,000 units sold, it was the best-selling BSC title and, with 53/36/27 weeks, the longest BSC title in the single charts of all DA-CH countries.

The lyrics to On other ways are written in German. The music was written by Bourani and Julius Hartog, the text by Bourani. The lead vocals of the pop song are from Bourani; the accompanying singing by Julius Hartog and Philipp Steinke.
Universal described the piece as a "melancholy farewell song" to a failed love. In other ways it is “a call to let go and be free”.
Bourani himself described his song in the following words:
“ In other ways , the story of a relationship ending and a breakup is always very painful, it's a bit like a little death actually. But in the song I didn't focus so much on this pain and the phases that you go through when you've split up, but more on why you split up, because you just feel a different energy, because you're doing something else would like to experience what new needs, because you have also drifted apart and you can no longer find each other and then just walk on different paths. "
Music video
The music video for On other ways was filmed in Vík í Mýrdal and the surrounding area in Iceland and premiered on October 24, 2014 on YouTube . Bourani is walking the Icelandic countryside on a rainy day. In between you can see some scenes in which he helps out with a carpenter and stays with him. The total length of the video is 4:04 minutes. As with the previous single Auf Uns , Kim Frank directed it again. To date, the video has over 32 million clicks on YouTube (as of April 2019).

In other ways reached position four in the single charts in Germany and stayed in the top 10 for twelve weeks and 53 weeks in the charts. In Austria the single reached position five and stayed in the top 10 for three weeks and in the charts for 36 weeks. In Switzerland, the single reached position 29 in the charts in 27 weeks. Although the song did not make it to number one, it was still the most successful German-language song in the German single charts for a period of six weeks and the most successful German-language song in the Austrian hit parade for eight weeks . In 2014, On other ways was placed in the German single annual charts at position 56. In 2015, the single was placed in the German single annual charts at position 46, and at position 32 in Austria.
For Bourani as an interpreter, this is the fifth chart success in Germany and Austria, as well as the third in Switzerland. After Auf uns, it is his second top 10 success in Germany and Austria.
