Dirk Rudolph
Dirk Rudolph (* 1964 ) is a German photographer and graphic artist. Since 1989 he has mainly designed sound carrier packaging for numerous artists at home and abroad.
Professional background
Dirk Rudolph is self-taught as a photographer and has completed his training as a screen printer. At the beginning of the 80s he played in the punk bands “Fenton Weills”, “The Clean Three” and “Day of Milk”. He wrote fanzines , designed cassette covers and tour posters for befriended bands and was the owner of an independent record label in Hagen . When his main employer, a printing company in Hagen, had to file for bankruptcy in 1989, Dirk Rudolph started his own business as a graphic designer .
Dirk Rudolph often works with stencils that he creates based on a photo on the computer and uses in his collages . He often splatters, sprinkles and sprays the pictures with blobs of paint. Letters are created with a brush, pen, packaging tape or on the computer.
His cover art can be found on numerous albums by various musicians, e. B. Phillip Boa , Element of Crime , Scorpions , Ich + Ich , Fler , Bushido , Pia Lund , Reamonn , Georgie Fame , The Singers Unlimited . Götz Alsmann , Valentine, Enigma , Jean-Yves Thibaudet , Bryan Adams , Kain , P: lot , Rufus Wainwright , Rammstein , Lambretta , Rivo Drei , Till Brönner , Schrottbound , And Then She Came and In Extremo . The sound carriers were for the most part awarded gold and platinum . For the band Die Toten Hosen , Rudolph designed the covers of the albums Back to Happiness , Only Visiting , In aller Stille (album) and Ballast der Republik . He designed the cover of the EP Friss oder dies and with it the posters for the two-year Friss oder dies tour . In addition, Dirk Rudolph developed the entire visual appearance of the Motor Music company .
In 1999 a 160-page illustrated book with Dirk Rudolph's graphics was published under the title Spark . In 2006 Rudolph illustrated a book with stories by Edgar Allan Poe together with other artists .
