Holger Oertel (born February 29, 1952 in Meißen ) is a former German handball goalkeeper and handball trainer .
Career
At the age of eight years Holger Oertel began at THW Kiel with the handball . In 1972 he played for the first time for the THW Bundesliga team . From 1978 he was team captain for six years until the end of his career. During this time he played more than 175 games for the THW. After Marek Panas , who had played at THW Kiel since 1982, also took over the training of the zebras in 1987 , Oertel became his assistant coach . In the 1988/89 season he was again in goal for six games. After the newly engaged coach Josip Milković was dismissed in December 1989 , Holger Oertel was his successor. During the 1992/93 season, Oertel resigned eleven game days before the end of the season after THW Kiel had lost against the later relegated HC Empor Rostock at 15:21. His successor until the end of the season was his former teammate Uwe Schwenker . Oertel then trained the second men's team at THW.
For the German national team , Oertel played four international matches. He made his debut on November 20, 1974 in Kiel against Denmark .

Holger Oertel is married and has two daughters. Until his retirement in the summer of 2016, he was deputy headmaster of the Hans-Geiger-Gymnasium in Kiel-Gaarden .
