Jean-Yves Thibaudet

Jean-Yves Thibaudet (born September 7, 1961 in Lyon , France ) is a French pianist.

Life

Thibaudet is the son of a French and a German. He started playing the piano and violin at the age of five. He had his first public appearance when he was seven and his first concert when he was nine. At the age of 12 he entered the Paris Conservatory and studied with Aldo Ciccolini and Lucette Descaves . Three years later he won the Premier Prix du Conservatoire. This was followed by other awards such as 2nd prize at the Viotti competition in Vercelli (1978) and 2nd prize at the Casadesus competition in Cleveland (1979). In 1980/81 he finally won first prize in competitions in Tokyo and New York .

Since then he has been working with renowned orchestras ( Chicago Symphony Orchestra , Orchester National de France , Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra ) and conductors ( Lorin Maazel , Vladimir Ashkenazy , Herbert Blomstedt , Riccardo Chailly , Charles Dutoit , Valery Gergiev , James Levine , Leonard Slatkin ). He was also involved in many sound recordings. Among others he accompanied the soprano Renée Fleming , the mezzo-sopranos Cecilia Bartoli and Angelika Kirchschlager , and the violist Juri Baschmet . The most famous of his more than 30 productions are the soundtracks for the films Portrait of a Lady , Atonement and Pride and Prejudice .

In 2001 Jean-Yves Thibaudet was awarded the Chevalier de l ' Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by France .
