Henri Cuenat

Henri Cuenat (born March 28, 1840 in Pruntrut ; † March 25, 1918 ibid) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and judge . From 1881 to 1896 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

Cuenat attended the college in his birthplace. In 1860 he began to study law in Strasbourg , which he continued in Bern in 1861 . In 1867 he was admitted to the bar, whereupon he worked as a lawyer in Pruntrut until 1878 and again from 1884 . From 1878 to 1891 he served as court president of the district of Pruntrut , then until 1894 as senior bailiff . In 1889 Cuenat founded a branch of the Schweizerischen Volksbank in Pruntrut and was a member of its board of directors from 1894 . He held the rank of major in the Swiss Army .

His political career began in 1869 with the election to the local council of Pruntrut, of which he was a member for nine years. From 1871 to 1874 and from 1894 to 1906 Cuenat was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern . During the Kulturkampf he represented radical anti-clerical positions and published the Gazette du village . Cuenat went to the National Council elections in 1881 and was elected in the constituency of Jura . From 1890 he represented the constituency of North Jura . In 1896 he resigned from the National Council. Three years later he ran again, but was unsuccessful.
