Astronaut is a song by the German rapper Sido , in cooperation with the German pop singer Andreas Bourani . The piece is the third single from his sixth studio album VI .
Creation and artwork
The song was written by Andreas Bourani, the FNSHRS production team. (consisting of: Paul NZA , Marek Pompetzki and Cecil Remmler ), Simon Müller-Lerch and Paul Würdig (Sido). The single was produced by the producer trio in the rented Karma Sound Studios in Thailand . The single was released under the Urban music label and distributed through Universal Music Publishing . On the black and white cover of the maxi single - in addition to the artist name, logo and song title - the helmet of a space traveler , in which a prefabricated building is reflected, can be seen.
Publication and promotion
The first publication of an astronaut carried out on August 7, 2015 digital release. A physical sound carrier was released a week later on August 14, 2015 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland . The piece is available as a single download or as a 2-track single. In addition to the radio version, the maxi single also includes an instrumental version of Astronaut as the B-side .
In order to promote the song, a joint live appearance followed during prime time on Schlag den Raab . Here it happened that Sido had a few lyrics stuck and sometimes started to giggle in his rap breaks. That same night he explained the situation on Twitter with the following words: “Schlag den Raab just takes too long ... too much time to drink !! Haha sorry !!! #I'll never drink again ". background information
In an interview with the Munich evening newspaper , Sido was surprised at Astronaut's number one success and added that his hit Bilder im Kopf from 2012 actually deserved a number one. Sido thought that it was just about time and in connection with Bourani (who was on everyone's lips with the music show Sing my song - The swap concert ) and a great airplay success came this chart success. Due to the great airplay success, the release of Astronaut was brought forward, actually a different release date was planned.
The collaboration between Bourani and Sido stems from a long friendship. Shortly after the single was released , Sido posted a picture on Facebook on August 18, 2015 , showing him and Bourani in a recording studio owned by Peter Maffay in Tutzing on Lake Starnberg in 2007.

Musically, the song moves in the realm of rap and pop music . The first two stanzas are rapped by Sido, the chorus and the third stanza are sung by Bourani. The content is about how a person looks at the earth from space and becomes aware of the futility of war, hardship and misery on his home planet.

The music video for Astronaut premiered on September 3, 2015, on YouTube . The entire video raises the question of whether it is so easy to escape violence, suffering and misery in the world. The video begins with a man standing on a hill with arms outstretched at sunset. The first refrain is followed by beautiful pictures that show ascending flight scenes and perspectives and finally space scenes. From the first stanza ugly and shocking images alternate showing misery, destruction and pollution - garbage , marches, drug crime , refugee camps , homelessness , wars , natural disasters , neo-Nazism , police violence, overpopulation with controversial scenes: plastic surgery, US flags, Cosmetics for pets, toy robots, fast food, dollar bills, balance sheets, high-rise commercial buildings, poker chips, diamonds, production of cars, medicines and meat products. A stanza that is musically out of the ordinary is followed by scenes with beautiful and harmonious natural spectacles, which are again followed by scenes full of violence and misery. The video ends with Bourani and Sido, who are sitting in an empty movie theater with straitjackets , wires that keep their eyes open and who are fitted with brainwave meters , watching the scenes - a reference to Stanley Kubrick's film adaptation of A Clockwork Orange . The total length of the video is 3:58 minutes. To date, the video has over 87 million views on YouTube (as of April 2020). The ultimate chart show titled the music video as "Video of the Year 2015".

On December 3, 2015, Astronaut was awarded a 1 Live Crown in the Best Single category. On May 3, 2016 it was announced that the piece would be awarded the German Music Author's Prize for the “Most Successful Work 2015”.
Charts and chart placements
Astronaut reached number one in the single charts in Germany and was able to stay at the top for a total of seven weeks, 19 weeks in the top 10 and 43 weeks in the charts. In Austria, the single also reached number one and stayed at the top for a total of six weeks, 15 weeks in the top 10 and 34 weeks in the charts. In Switzerland, too, the single reached position one in the charts and was able to stay at the top for a total of nine weeks and 22 weeks in the top 10 and 37 in the charts. In Germany, Astronaut was the most successful German-language song in the single charts for a period of nine weeks .
