Sandro Nicolas ( Greek Σάντρο Νικόλα , actually Alessandro Rütten , also known as Sandro , born October 4, 1996 in Heinsberg , North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany ) is a German singer .

life and career

Sandro is the son of a Greek mother and an American father. He grew up in Germany and began his music career there.

He first appeared in public in 2015 when he took part in the program Das Supertalent . In 2018 he took part in the eighth season of the program The Voice of Germany . In the blind auditions , he managed to get all four jurors to turn around. Sandro was eliminated in the Sing Offs in the end . In 2019, Sandro took part under the American flag at the New Wave Song Festival in Sochi and reached number 6.

On November 29, 2019, the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC announced him as a representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam ( Netherlands ). He should compete there with the song Running , which was released on March 6, 2020. The competition had to be canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic . On June 1, 2020, the Cypriot broadcaster announced that Sandro would not represent Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
