Alexandros Panagis ( Greek Αλέξανδρος Παναγής }, also transcribed Panayi , born June 24, 1970 in Nicosia ) is a Cypriot singer and composer. Panagis, who speaks fluent Greek , English and French , became known in Europe through two participation in the Eurovision Song Contest .

Panagis, who comes from a family of musicians, took his first musical steps under his father, so that at the age of 18 he was one of the leading artists in his country. He then studied music at Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts . During his time in the United States he sang with Gary Burton and Peter Erskine, among others . During this time he also belonged to the a cappella band "The Vocal Summit", with which he toured the USA.

Eurovision 1995

In 1989 Panagis first experienced the Eurovision Song Contest as a background singer for Yiannis Savidakis and Fani Polymeri and their song Apopse as vrethume . In 1990 and 1993 he came in third place in the Cypriot preliminary decision. In 1991 he was there as a background singer, this time with Elena Patroklou and her song SOS . In 1995 he represented Cyprus for the first time solo, with the song Sti Fotia , of which an Italian-language and English-language version was also recorded, reached number 9 out of 23 participants. In 1998 he wanted to represent Cyprus one more time, together with " Hi-5 " singer Marlain Aggelidou he reached second place with Fterougisma in the preliminary round. In 2000 he won together with Christina Argyri as " Voice " again the preliminary round with Nomiza . At the ESC 2000 they only reached place 21 out of 24 participating countries. He was also a backing vocalist for the victorious Greek contribution My Number One by Helena Paparizou in of 2005.

Panagis has often worked as a vocal coach for ESC participants in recent years, including Sergej Lasarew , the third and televoting winner of 2016.
