Michalis Hatzigiannis ( Greek Μιχάλης Χατζηγιάννης ; born November 5, 1979 in Nicosia , Cyprus ) is a Greek-Cypriot singer and composer. He uses the name Mihalis for non-Greek publications .

Life

Youth and beginning of his career in Cyprus

Michalis Hatzgiannis is one of the most famous Greek singers. Born in Nicosia, he graduated from the Cyprus Academy of Music with a degree in piano, guitar and music theory.

At the age of 15 he took part in a song contest in Cyprus, "Afetiries", in which he won first place. He started his career in Cyprus with three recordings, all of which went platinum: "Senario", "O Mihalis Hatzigiannis Traguda Doro Georgiadi" and "Epafi". He also took part in a music production in Cyprus called "Pygmalion".

In 1998 he was for Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest , with the song "Γένεσις" (Yenesis - Genesis). A self-composed piece with which he took 11th place.

Career in Greece

Later in Athens he worked with the composer Yiorgos Hadjinassios and the lyrics writer Michales Bourboulis to create his new album "Άγγιγμα ψυχής" (Angigma Psychis), which was released in 1998. The album included songs for the TV series of the same name. The album went platinum.

In March 2000, Hatzgiannis released his first solo album "Παράξενη Γιορτή" (Paraxeni Giorti). Other composers and lyricists worked on the album. The album contained some of the biggest hits of 2000. The song "Μόνο Στα Όνειρα" (Mono Sta Onira) stayed at number one on all Greek radio stations for several weeks. The two songs "Παράξενη Γιορτή" (Paraxeni Giorti) and "Και Θα Χαθώ" (Ke tha Hatho) had similar success. The album went double platinum and was a milestone in the young singer's career. In November of the same year he had his first live performances in Athens.

At the beginning of 2001 he got platinum with the single CD "Δεν Έχω Χρόνο" (Den Eho Hrono). The song stayed in the charts for a long time. In 2001 he performed with the singer Haris Alexiou and in the summer of the same year he went on tour through Greece for the first time.

In spring 2002 he released his second album, which got triple platinum. The album contains some big hits like "Είσαι Εδώ" (Ise Edo), "Το Σ'αγαπώ" (To S 'Agapo), "Χωρίς Αναπνοή" (Horis Anapnoi), "Η Εκδρομή" (I Ekdromiννννννννννο ναπνοή " (Kapnos). In the summer of that year he went on tour a second time, with even greater success. In winter he performed with the singer Dimitra Galani .

In 2003 he released "Μόνος Μου" (Monos Mou), an EP with five songs that went triple platinum. The song "Αν Μου Τηλεφωνούσες" (An Mou Tilephonouses) became a big hit and stayed on Greek radios for months. Even today it is one of the most famous ballads in Greece. In summer 2003 he went on tour again, where he gave 63 sold out concerts.

He held three awards at the official Greek Music Awards in 2003 and four in 2004, including the award for the best male performer.

In April 2004 he released his third solo recording "Ακατάλληλη Σκηνή" (Akatallili Skini). On April 30th he represented Cyprus at the big eastward enlargement celebration in Warsaw . The admission of ten new states to the European Union was celebrated. In 2004 he went on tour again in Greece and sang at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Athens. In winter he had about a hundred performances in Athens and Thessaloniki with the very famous singer Paschalis Terzis .

In summer 2005 he went on tour through Greece again. His last appearance on this tour was at the Lycabettus Theater with two sold-out concerts. In October he traveled to Australia for the first time and gave three concerts. From November 2005 to April 2006 he performed with Antonis Remos .

In March 2006 he released his first live album, recorded at the concert in the Lycabettus Theater, with three new songs "Δε Φεύγω" (De fevgo), "Δεν Είμαι Εδώ Για Κανένα" (Den ime edo gia kanena) and "Μοιάζουμε" (Miazoume). All of them became big hits. The live album also contained a DVD with pictures from the concert and backstage. In April he toured Canada and the United States with George Dalaras . In May he performed in Thessaloniki with Natasa Theodoridou . During the summer he toured Greece with 50 sold out concerts. In August he released the single "Ola i tipota" (Ola i tipota) which became a huge hit. In December 2006 he released his fourth album "Φίλοι και Εχθροί" (Fili ke ehthri) with some very successful songs like "Να Είσαι Εκεί" (Na ise eki), "Αισθήματα" (Esthimata), "Χέρια Ψηλά" and other.

In March 2007 he worked with the German rock band Reamonn and released the hit "Tonight" with Greek lyrics by Eleana Vrahali . The song is on the re-release "Wish" by Reamonn and "Φίλοι και Εχθροί" (Fili ke ehthri) by Michalis Hatzigiannis.

In June he released the single "Πιο Πολύ" (Pio Poly) with four songs: the new song "Pio poly", a remix of "Pio poly", the duet "Tonight" with Reamonn and a "Moscow electroremix" by "Heria" psila ". He also started his summer tour in Greece after appearing on Vox, which ended in May.

International career

Due to his steadily growing international fan base, he made a European tour through Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium in October and November 2007. In mid-2009 Hatzigiannis released his first single in English ("More Than Beautiful") on Universal Music Group under the name "Mihalis". A video clip for the song was shot in Berlin. On June 30, 2010 his single "Everyone dance", the English version of his Greek hit "Cheria Psila", was released in Germany. The English text is from Rea Garvey von Reamonn . The release of an English studio album entitled "Mihalis" is announced for August 13, 2010. With his single Everyone Dance he entered the German single charts at number 96 in mid-August 2010, but was only able to stay in the charts for a week.
