Lia Vissi

Lia Vissi , bourgeois Olympia Vissi , in Greek Λία Βίσση , (born December 20, 1955 in Larnaka ( Cyprus )) is a Cypriot singer and politician . She is the older sister of Anna Vissi , who is a well-known singer herself.

biography

Together with her sisters Anna and Nicki, Lia Vissi founded the folk band "The Vissi Sisters" ("The Vissi Sisters"). After Anna won a talent competition, the family moved to Greece in 1973 .

Lia Vissi graduated from the Greek Conservatory in Athens and then gave piano lessons there for years. She is a successful composer , singer and producer who has released various records and given numerous concerts in Greece and abroad. In addition to self-composed songs and jazz standards, the program of her solo concerts includes songs by Bertolt Brecht , Kurt Weill , Hanns Eisler , Pablo Neruda , Mikis Theodorakis , Manos Handjidakis , Thanos Mikroutsikos and Savvas Savva . She also writes music for television series and plays . She also teaches modern singing .

In 2006 she took part in the parliamentary elections in the Larnaka district as the representative of the Dimokratikos Synagermos party , but was not elected despite a promotional campaign by her sister Anna.

Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest

In 1979 Lia Vissi first came into contact with the Eurovision Song Contest : As a background singer for Elpida . A year later she was a member of The Epikouri group , which accompanied her sister Anna and, like Elpida in 1979 , represented Greece at the Eurovision Song Contest .

For her home country Cyprus , she competed in the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest in Gothenburg . But she had no luck: Only 16th place (out of 19 starters) for her song To katalava arga (Gr. Το κατάλαβα αργά, in German about "I noticed it too late"). She wrote the song herself.

In 1991 and 1992 she came in second place in the Greek preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest.
