life and career

Tamta grew up with her divorced mother in a town near Tbilisi, together with her six-year-old brother. She showed musical interest early on. At the age of fourteen she married her boyfriend two years older, and a few months later her daughter was born. She made it to the University of Tbilisi by attending evening school and taking private lessons. She studied Russian and English literature. After six years of marriage, she applied for divorce and moved with her daughter to her mother and brother in Athens; like her mother, she worked as a domestic help. With the support of an employer, she took part in Super Idol , the first edition of the Greek version of Pop Idol , in 2003/2004 , in which she took second place. As a result, Tamta received a record deal and a permanent residence permit in Greece. Since then she has been successful as a singer. So far she has released four albums, was a juror at The X-Factor Greece and The X-Factor Georgia and has also appeared in musicals such as Rent and Cabaret .

In the past she tried several times to represent Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest . In 2007 she was third in the Greek preliminary with her song With Love . In 2010 she asked ERT independently whether she could represent the country. However, your request was rejected by ERT. In 2018 she was contacted by the Cypriot broadcaster CyBC to represent Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest . However, she canceled due to a busy schedule. In doing so, she apparently left the title to Fuego Eleni Foureira , who took second place behind Israel.

Tamta said in November 2018 that she would be happy to represent Cyprus, Georgia or Greece if she liked the song. On December 21, 2018, CyBC announced that Tamta would represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel . Her song Replay was released on March 4, 2019 and comes from the team around Fuego supplier Alex Papaconstantinou. Tamta finished 9th in the first semifinals and 13th in the final.
