The Taui ( Russian Тауй ), in the upper reaches Kawa ( Russian Кава ), is a 378 km long tributary of the Sea of Okhotsk in the north of the Khabarovsk region and in the Magadan Oblast .
River course
The Taui arises at the confluence of the Rassava and Losowaja rivers about 70 km northeast of Novaya Inja . Initially it flows mainly in a south-easterly direction. The Taui later flows in an easterly direction at a distance of about 30 km from the sea coast. A 6244 km² area of the Magadan nature reserve extends on the north bank . At river kilometer 66, the Chelomja , the largest tributary of the Taui, meets the river from the north. At river kilometer 37, the village of Talon is on the north bank of the river. The Taui finally empties almost 100 km west of the oblast capital Magadan into the Amakhtonsky Bay , which is part of the larger Taui Bay and lies on the north coast of the Sea of Okhotsk. The village of Balagannoje is located on the left bank of the river at the mouth of the river . The Taui is navigable in the lower reaches near the mouth.
Hydrology
The catchment area of the Taui covers an area of 25,900 km² and extends in the north to the Suntar-Chajata Mountains . The mean discharge of the Taui is 36 km above the estuary 347 m³ / s. The Taui is essentially fed by snowmelt and precipitation. The river is usually ice-covered between late October and mid-May. The highest monthly discharges usually occur in June with an average of 1296 m³ / s.
Fish fauna
Various salmon fish use the river for spawning .
