Sergei Vjatscheslavowitsch Lasarew ( Russian Сергей Вячеславович Лазарев , scientific transliteration Sergej Vjačeslavovič Lazarev; born April 1, 1983 in Moscow ) is a Russian singer .

Life

Sergei Lazarew began his singing career at the age of nine when he was a member of the Loktew Children's Choir. During his school days he played in plays such as Romeo and Juliet and The Brothers Karamazov , where he sometimes took on the leading role.

At the age of 14 he received his first musical award. He won various children's music competitions and thus came to the children's band Neposedi , which also included his cousin Julija Wolkowa and his friend Wlad Topalow . In 2001 he and Topalow founded the boy group Smash !! which was signed by Universal Music Russia. In 2002 and 2003 the group received numerous awards and sold records in Russia, CIS and Southeast Asia, including Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand. The two separated in 2004, shortly after their second album was released. In November 2005, Lasarev began a solo career, recording his first solo album Don't Be Fake with British producer Brian Rawling , which sold more than 300,000 copies in Russia.

Lazarev was accepted to the Moscow Art Theater School (MChAT) in 2000 and graduated as a professional actor in 2004. He received several awards for his roles. In 2005 he resumed his acting career. With his single Flyer he reached fourth place in the Russian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 .

He was internally selected to represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm , where he achieved 3rd place overall with the song You Are the Only One , won the audience vote and the song won the Marcel Bezençon Prize for Press won.

On February 7, 2019, it was announced that he will also compete for Russia at the ESC in Tel Aviv in 2019 . The composing team is identical to that of 2016. On March 9, 2019, the song Scream , with which he took part in the competition, was presented. Lasarew reached third place in the final with 370 points.
