Scream (Engl. For Cry ) is a song of the Russian singer Sergei Lazarev and the competition entry of the country to the Euro Vision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv in Israel . Lazarev entered the Song Contest for the second time, after which he was able to reach third place in Stockholm 2016 . The song qualified for the final in the second semifinals on May 16, 2019; in this Lazarew again reached third place.

Music and lyrics

It is in Scream to a dramatic pop ballad that advance because of the orchestral accompaniment with a film soundtrack by Hans Zimmer was compared. Lazarev said it was a completely different genre than in You Are the Only One 2016. “So I can show myself from a different side.” He announced that the gig in Tel Aviv will be significantly more emotional than the previous one. The song was written by the ESC-experienced team of Filipp Kirkorow , Sharon Vaughn and Dimitris Kontopoulos and produced by Kirkorow and Kontopoulos. It was Russia's contribution to the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest after Lazarev was selected internally by Russian state television. The lavishly produced music video was inspired by Game of Thrones . The song was recorded with the participation of the Moscow Symphony Orchestra ( Московский Симфонический Оркестр ).

Publication and reception

The song was presented to the public on March 9, 2019 and was also released as a single. Laut.de wrote: "In the broad field of this year's ballads, the highly dramatic Scream stands out." The bookmakers count the song as a favorite. As part of the celebrations of Russia Day , Lazarev presented a Russian-language version of the title called "Krik" ( Крик ) on June 12, 2019 .

Song contest

In the semi-final draw, Russia was drawn into the second semi-final on May 16, 2019; Sergei Lasarew listed Scream in 13th place and reached sixth place. In the final on May 18, 2019, he made it to third place with 370 points, sung in fifth place. The background vocals were provided by Erik Segerstedt, Jennie Jahns, Adam Svensson and Simon Lingmerth.
