The Day of Russia ( Russian День России , even the day of the ratification of the Declaration on the sovereignty of Russia or (incorrectly) Independence called) is the Russian National Day , which is celebrated annually on 12 June.

On June 12, 1990, the first Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR adopted the declaration of state sovereignty of the RSFSR . Exactly a year later, the first free presidential elections took place in Russia. June 12th has been an official holiday in Russia since 1994 . In 2001 the day was given its current name.

For the population, however, this day is not as important as Victory Day on May 9th, which is celebrated much more elaborately.
