Holidays in Russia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are several public holidays in Russia and also some religious holidays or days of honor and remembrance.

Statutory non-working holidays

If the public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it will be made up on the following working day in accordance with Russian legislation.

The government can shift individual working days to Saturdays and Sundays that are actually non-working in order to achieve a chain of uninterrupted non-working days in the preceding or following week. Days out of sequence can also be declared non-working days. For example, April 28, 2007 (Saturday) was a working day, but April 30, 2007 (Monday) was a day off. This resulted in three consecutive days off: from April 29th to May 1st.

May 2, November 7 and December 12 ( Constitution Day of the Russian Federation ) are no longer public holidays since 2005. To this end, three public holidays were added in January and November 4th was introduced.
