The Radio Day ( Russian День радио ) is a former Soviet and now Russian memorial.

It has been celebrated annually on May 7th since 1945 and refers to the first successful demonstration of the detection of lightning discharges during thunderstorms on April 25th July. / May 7th 1895 greg. by Alexander Popov at the Russian Academy of Sciences , then based in Saint Petersburg . The East-West conflict that began after 1945 contributed to the fact that the 31st December 1905 July. / January 13th  1906 greg. Deceased Russian physicist Popov in the Soviet Union, also for propaganda motives, is considered the inventor of the radio and is revered in this role.
