The day of cosmonauts ( Russian День космонавтики ) is April 12th .

Cosmonaut Day is a day of remembrance of the first manned flight into space by Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961 with the spaceship Vostok 1 . The day was and will continue to be celebrated in the Soviet Union in Russia . On this day there will also be a worldwide series of parties in memory of the first manned space flight under the name Yuri's Night .

On April 7th, 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations also declared April 12th to be International Human Space Day .
