Timati (2012)

Timati (born August 15, 1983 in Moscow ; real name Timur Ildarowitsch Junussow , Cyrillic : Тимур Ильдарович Юнусов) is a Russian rapper and singer of Tatar descent.

biography

Timati comes from a wealthy family. His father Ildar Junussow is an ethnic Tatar . His mother Simona Junussowa (née Tschernomorskaja) has Jewish roots.

Timati attended music school as a teenager and learned the violin . He broke off studying at a Moscow business school. In 1995 he went to Los Angeles . There he got to know hip-hop and R'n'B , which shaped his later musical direction. With his first band, the hip-hop project VIP 77 , he was only able to achieve small successes underground .

2004–2008: Breakthrough in Russia

After participating in the fourth season of the casting show "Factory of Stars" in 2004, he founded the Banda group together with three other participants . Their debut album New People was one of the most successful albums in Russia in 2005.

In 2006 he started his solo career. His first solo album, Black Star by Timati , made it into the Russian album charts. The single release W Klube was voted "Best Club Song" in 2007. The track Schara (somewhat heat) was the title song of a Russian film in which Timati also had a role. Also in 2007 he played his first leading role in a movie (" Gitler kaput! "). In addition, he dubbed several feature films, including a. Surf's Up .

The single Forever was in the Russian charts in 2007 and 2008, where it rose to number 25. In 2008, Timati recorded the song Get Money with Nox. In the same year Timati and DJ Smash released the single Moscow Never Sleeps . In 2009 Timati presented his album "The Boss". He dedicated a song to his friend Ratmir, who was killed in a car accident.

2009: First successes outside of Russia

Timati gained international fame in 2009 through his collaboration with the US rapper Snoop Dogg , the joint single Get Your Groove On reached the charts in several European countries , including number 62 in Germany and number 21 in Belgium . A remix was released a few weeks later -Single with versions of house DJs like DJ Antoine or Remady .

In 2008 and 2009 he was one of the nominees for the MTV Europe Music Awards in the category "Best Russian Act". In 2010 Timati released the song I'm on You together with Diddy Dirty Money . In addition, countless other singles like I'll Be Waiting (Я буду ждать), SSL (Сколько Стоит Любовь) or Love You with Busta Rhymes .

2011: Worldwide breakthrough with DJ Antoine

With the title Welcome to St. Tropez , Timati landed a summer hit in the entire German-speaking region in 2011. The track was remixed by the Swiss DJ Antoine and the US singer Kalenna and was initially popular in clubs. A little later it entered the sales charts in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and many other countries around the world and achieved top 10 status in many countries. In addition, the trio has been awarded several gold and platinum records . The following singles with DJ Antoine, such as I'm On You , Happy Birthday or Amanama (Money), were also great successes.

This makes him the most successful pop act from Russia since the girl band tATu and only the second Russian act to reach the German top 10. The remix also gained popularity in Belgium and France and hit the charts.

2012: Studio album SWAGG

At the end of 2011 he signed a record deal with the dance label Kontor Records . He made himself particularly interesting at Kontor through the numerous collaborations with DJ Antoine and DJ MEG, both of whom are under contract there. Along with the contract, he announced a new studio album.

On June 22nd, 2012, the third studio album, SWAGG , was released, on which, in addition to the most successful old songs, there are also new songs such as Not All About the Money or Match Me . Guest musicians included Timbaland , Matisse & Sadko , Craig David , Shontelle and Snoop Dogg . It also includes remixes by DJ Antoine , Bodybangers , B-Case and PH Electro , among others . SWAGG was able to enter all charts after just one week. Including 31st place in Germany and 17th place in Switzerland.

The first release was Not All About the Money , in which he was supported by the American singer Max C as well as singer Grooya, rapper Timbaland and the DJ duo La La Land. It was able to achieve high chart positions, including 29th place in Germany, 32nd place in Austria and 7th place in Switzerland. The second release is called Forever , this was recorded with Mario Winans and was released in 2007, but the DJ team FlameMakers remixed it in 2012 and the track was therefore released again. The single could not reach chart positions. Match Me was released on September 14, 2012. He recorded this song with the Swedish singer and rapper J-Son . The title track was produced by DJ Antoine and Mad Mark . The fourth single was Sex in the Bathroom . Here acts Craig David with. In November, all songs on the album were released as single tracks or promo singles in the Russian iTunes store.

In spring 2013, a re-release of the song Groove On from 2009 in collaboration with US rapper Snoop Dogg was released via Kontor Records . There were new remixes from CJ Stone and Re-Fuge, as well as from Funkastarz together with D-Jastic. The remixes by DJ Antoine and Mad Mark , Remady and Virtual Vault , which were already on the original release, were also available together with the original versions. None of these versions reached the charts.

In addition to his own music, Timati runs the hip-hop label Black Star Inc. , several clubs in Moscow and a fashion label .

2019: Moscow

In 2019 Timati released a song called Moscow. Among other things, he praises the city of Moscow as “a city where no gay parades take place”. Within a few days he received 1.48 million dislikes on YouTube. He then took the song offline. Timati is known for praising Russian President Vladimir Putin and enjoying performing with him. The guest rapper Guf distanced himself from the song in retrospect.

Black Star Inc.

Timati has its own music label, which is called Black Star Inc. carries. The entire label, which has the musicians Natan, Мот, L'One, MC Doni and Timati under contract, works together and goes on tour together. The so-called Black Star Mafia travels across America and Europe.

Private life

Timati and his ex-girlfriend Alena Shishkova have a daughter who was born in 2014.
