Shontelle Layne (* 4. October 1985 in Saint James ) is a pop and R & B - singer from Barbados .

biography

The SRC label became aware of Shontelle when she wrote the song Roll It Gal , with which Soca singer Alison Hinds landed a hit in the island nation in 2005. The song became a success in Europe in 2007 (under the title Roll It ) for the Jamaican quartet J-Status along with Rihanna and Shontelle, which was not officially named.

Shontelle signed a recording deal with SRC and announced their debut album in 2008. The album Shontelligence hit both the official album charts and the US R&B charts. The first release from the album is T-shirt . In Great Britain the song became a club hit in 2009 and reached the top 10 of the official UK charts. In the US, the single entered the top 40 on the US Billboard charts.

The following single, Stuck with Each Other , was released on February 10, 2009. Diane Warren worked as a songwriter . The American singer and rapper Akon supported her as a guest musician . In the UK, the song placed 23rd. The third and final single was Battle Cry .

In 2010 Shontelle released her second album, entitled No Gravity . From the album she coupled the songs Impossible , Perfect Nightmare and Say Hello to Goodbye . Impossible is her greatest success so far. She reached the top 10 in Great Britain and the top 15 in the USA with the song. In 2012 Shontelle presented the title One to One from their upcoming third album on the Internet. As the best friend of the R&B musician Rihanna, she produced and wrote various songs for her such as B. Man Down from the album Loud .

In January 2013 DJ Antoine released his album Sky Is the Limit on which she was the singer of the song Perfect Day . The track was able to reach the Swiss charts due to downloads. A cover version of Impossible by British singer James Arthur made Impossible popular a second time and missed entry into the German single charts. In April, the single I'm in Love was released with the Danish house DJ Kato. Shontelle has been a juror at The Voice in Vietnam since 2017 .
