J-Status is a Jamaican R&B / Hip-Hop band.
Band history
The two brothers Barwise and classmates Stewart and Thompson had known each other since school and they sang together in the church choir. In 2002 they tried their luck in the United States. Initially, her attempts in the music business were unsuccessful. It was only when they performed in a church in Port Chester, New York, for board and lodging, that they established a connection with the SRP label, which other artists from the Caribbean also had under contract.
The four Jamaicans first drew attention when they starred on Rihanna's debut album in 2005 . The Barbadian star returned the favor by singing Roll It on her debut single . The song was a Soca hit in Barbados under the title Roll It Gal and was penned by Shontelle , who also worked on the J-Status version. Their R&B / dance version Roll It was a hit in Germany in 2007 and made it to number 33 in the single charts .
In the US, however, the single flopped. After they had also worked on Rihanna's second album, things got quiet around her for a while. In 2009 they started a second attempt with the title Pieces with the support of Shontelle.
