Roll It Gal (also known as Roll It ) is a song written by Shontelle Layne and Sheldon Benjamin. It contains a sample of Benjamin's Big Love . The song was originally recorded by Caribbean Soca singer Alison Hinds and appeared on her debut album Soca Queen . Hinds released the song in Barbados in 2005 and in the UK in 2007 . In addition, she shot a music video . Hinds' original version became a number one hit in Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and across the Caribbean .
In 2007, J-Status released with Rihanna and Shontelle Roll It in some European countries. Roll It appeared on the album The Beginning . Shontelle participated in both versions of the songs as a songwriter . The song is about girl power and sexual issues.

Shontelle's version
In 2007 Shontelle finally recorded her own version of Roll It , which later appeared on her debut album Shontelligence .
Shontelle's version was only made available for download on August 14, 2007 , Shontelle did not want to release the piece as an official single. Shontelle renamed the song Roll for download release, but on the album the track was released as Roll It . For her version, Shontelle rewrote the lyrics and deals with other topics.
