Russian Roulette is a song by the Barbadian R&B singer Rihanna . The song is the first single from Rihanna's fourth studio album Rated R . It made its radio debut on October 20, 2009. In an interview, Rihanna stated that the song was about a love game and had nothing to do with the game of Russian Roulette .

Music video

The music video was directed by Anthony Mandler. The video was recorded on October 23, 2009 and the filming lasted two days. It premiered on November 13, 2009. The video shows Rihanna in different situations. In the first, Rihanna is in an empty abandoned room, this scene is meant to reflect the loneliness . In the next situation, Rihanna has an argument with her boyfriend (played by Jesse Williams ), this scene is supposed to reflect the argument with Chris Brown . In the third situation, Rihanna jumps into the water and is shot there; this scene is supposed to reflect the separation from her boyfriend. In the last situation and scene, Rihanna is apparently no longer interested in a relationship and she can handle the breakup with her boyfriend well.

Commercial win

The song debuted at number 100 on the US Billboard Hot 100 on November 7, 2009 and peaked at number nine the following week, making Russian Roulette Rihanna's twelfth top ten hit in the US, but the song only managed to get nine Holds a total of weeks in the US charts. It reached number nine in Canada . In Australia reached Russian Roulette eleventh place in the British singles charts reached Russian Roulette second place and was Rihanna's eleventh top 5 and top 10 hit in the UK . So far, the song has been sold over three million times worldwide. In the UK, Russian Roulette was awarded gold on July 22, 2013 for over 400,000 units sold. Russian Roulette reached the top ten in every country where it was featured in the charts, such as USA, Australia , UK, Canada, Germany , Austria , France , Switzerland and many other countries. The song reached number one in Norway , Slovakia and Switzerland.
