George Whitfield Crabb

George Whitfield Crabb (born February 22, 1804 in Botetourt County , Virginia , † August 15, 1846 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) was an American officer, judge and politician ( Whig Party ).

biography

George Whitfield Crabb attended public schools and then moved to Tuscaloosa . He was elected Assistant Secretary of State and in 1829 as Comptroller for public accounts. He then served in the Second Seminole War in 1836 , where he held the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Alabama Volunteers. He served in the Alabama House of Representatives in 1836 and 1837 . He then served in the Alabama Senate in 1837 and 1838 . He also held the rank of major general in the militia .

Crabb was elected to the 25th US Congress to fill the vacancy created by the death of MP Joab Lawler . He was re-elected to the 26th US Congress , but suffered a defeat when he ran for the 27th US Congress . Crabb served in the US House of Representatives from September 4, 1838 to March 3, 1841. Then in 1846 he was appointed a judge at the Mobile District Court. Crabb died in Philadelphia in 1846, his body was then transferred to Tuscaloosa, where he was buried in Greenwood Cemetery .
