Carter Manasco

Carter Manasco (born January 3, 1902 in Townley , Walker County , Alabama , † February 5, 1992 in McLean , Fairfax County , Virginia ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Carter Manasco attended a public school and Howard College in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama Law School at Tuscaloosa in 1927 with a Bachelor of Laws and in 1929 with a Juris Doctor . He was admitted to the bar that same year and then began practicing in Jasper, Alabama.

Manasco also had a political career. He was a member of the Alabama House of Representatives from 1930 to 1934 . During this time he became secretary to speaker William B. Bankhead in 1933 , a post he held until 1940. Manasco was elected to the 77th US Congress to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Walter W. Bankhead . He was re-elected to the three subsequent US Congresses , but suffered a defeat when he ran for the 81st US Congress in 1948 . Manasco served in the US House of Representatives from June 24, 1941 to January 3, 1949. During this time he chaired the Committee on Expenditures in Executive Departments ( 78th and 79th US Congresses ).

After leaving office, he went back to his work as a lawyer after, but also dealt with public relations ( PR ). He was a member of the first Hoover Commission on Reorganization of the Executive Departments between 1947 and 1949 . He then served as a legislative counsel for the National Coal Association between 1949 and 1985 . Manasco lived in McLean, Virginia, where he died in 1992. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery .
